In 1996, we created Harvest Ale, America's first fresh hop ale. Fresh hops are richer in natural hop resins producing unmatched aromatics and layers of spicy-sweet notes that hop fanatics like us dream of all year.
This year, we harvested and brewed with 8,000 lbs. of fresh hops in a single day's time. It sounds insane because it is. Then we did it again. But when you taste this year's Harvest Ale, we think you'll agree it was well worth it.
Harvest Ale is brewed using only fresh-picked, "wet" hops. Brewing with fresh, undried hops preserves more natural hop resins and aromatic oils, producing layers of hop notes rarely experienced.
Alcohol 6.7% by Volume.

Tim's ReviewI love hop driven brews. I have never really enjoyed those following the super hop craze that is all about more IBUs than a human can actually taste, but I do like strong IPAs. Sierra brews all have a similarity in taste (excepting the wheat) - a crispness that likely is a product of great water and using the some of same hops. This Harvest ale pours nicely into a rich copper color with ample head. It has a stronger smell, healthy with hops and some spiciness. The hops smell is delicious and fresh. The taste is strong and spicy, much like their acclaimed Celebration Ale, but not quite as spicy. It is rich with hops as it has been brewed with freshly harvested wet hops and the freshness can really be tasted. The alcohol is strong, but reasonable at 6.7%. Too often super IPAs melt your palate with too much of too many different hops and an unnecessary ABV. It is a bit sticky, almost as if there is some lingering hop resin hidden in the brew. The stickiness doesn't build much, but does affect the sessionability. I thoroughly enjoyed this testament to hops and how they can be used to create a strong, hearty intense offering. This is a great fall IPA. The Numbers:Appearance 8
