Le Coin du Vin, for all those non-francophones out there, simply means the wine corner. There is much to read out there on the world wide web, and this is my venture into establishing my little niche, or rather corner, in the e-wine world. My attempt is to simply share with all of you my passion for and growing knowledge of wine.
Before we begin I'd like to introduce myself. My name is Nicolas Robert Haegeli and I am one of the wine managers at Colonial Spirits of Acton in Acton, MA. I'm entering my third year at the store and in the wine business. I never envisioned myself working with wine when you consider that I have a BA in History and a Master of Public Policy in International Relations, but I suppose it makes sense when you know where I come from.
Anyone who knows me either as a colleague, friend, or family member knows that I am extremely proud of my roots. I was born in Alsace, arguably the most beautiful region of France, to a French father and an Italian American mother. I grew up in France and the United States and am therefore both bi cultural and bilingual. My ancestry ties me to the region of Alsace, of course, but also Abruzzo (or as it was once known *the *Abruzzi) and the Piedmont all of which are productive wine regions with good reputations. I also have roots to both Normandy and French Flanders, regions that other wonderful cider and brew. I love the products of all these regions. I also spent much of my childhood in southeastern France, so I am also an avid fanatic of Rhone *Valley* wines, both red and white, in addition to Provence's beautiful rose. The wines of Alsace, the Rhone *Valley*, the Piedmont, the Abruzzi, & Provence all hold my captive attention. What else can I say, I'm an old-world kind of guy when it comes to my taste in wine.
