SUMMARY:Oktoberfest
DESCRIPTION:It’s that time of year again where the leaves start to change\, the crispness is in the air\, and fall beers are coming into season.  It is also this time of year that we do our Grand Oktoberfest tasting.  For those who do not know about it\, we will open every Oktoberfest and Pumpkin beers we have in stock.  And I mean everything.  We will be opening over 50 beers from foreign and domestic breweries.  Not only will there be copious amounts of beer\, we will also be grilling up bratwurst for everyone.  And to top it all off\, we will be raffling some great stuff too.  With a fire pit\, a grill\, and a record player to name just a few\, your only chance to enter will be during the tasting.  So with all this in mind\, we hope to see everyone here September 26th\, 1-4pm.

DESCRIPTION:It is not very often that we get a bonafide Trappist ale to come out and taste their line up.  So when Dave from Chimay called us\, we of course said yes.  So on August 8th from 2-4pm we will be tasting all the Chimay ales that this Belgium brewery has.  While they do not have the same catalog that most of our American breweries have\, they have been brewing for centuries to perfect their blends.  You will notice that trappists do not have many beers.  There is a reason for that.  I think its somewhere along the lines of “if it ain’t broke\, don’t fix it.”  But what do I know?  August 8th 2-4.

DESCRIPTION:Always fun to have Lagunitas come in to do a tasting.  This California brewer has taken the East Coast by storm\, flooding the market with hop forward beers that people can’t get enough of.  Not only do they have their great year round offerings\, from their IPA and Pils to more unique styles like found in their Lagunitas Sucks and Little Sumpin’\, Sumpin’ Ale\, but they have great seasonal offerings that are constantly changing.  With their new Citrusinesis Pale Ale\, a great citrus ale that seems more like an IPA than Pale Ale\, they will continue to release experimental beers that push the envelope\, most likely with pounds and pounds of hops mixed in.  Come out August 7th 4-6pm to see what Lagunitas is working with.

SUMMARY:Newburyport/Bantam
DESCRIPTION:For our first tasting of the year we are having some of my favorite Massachusetts libations producers come in for a 2-for-1 tasting.  For beer we will have the always great Newburyport Brewing Co.  This north shore brewery makes one of Mass’ best year round IPAs with their Green Head IPA.  As well as this fine IPA\, they will have Melt Away Session IPA and Plum Island Belgium White to sample as well.  As for cider\, the Somerville cider makers of Bantam will be kind enough to let us sample some of their stuff.  Their Wunderkind is a great dry cider in a sea of sweet Massachusetts ciders.  We will also be tasting their Rojo\, with sour cherries and peppercorns\, and Americain\, a mixture of old world\, new world cider making techniques that great a really unique\, pie-like flavor.  Come try them all and see why they are some of my favorites.  Saturday\, August 1st 1-3.

DESCRIPTION:While the breweries name is Alltech’s Lexington Brewing and Distillation Co.\, you might know them better by the names of the beer.  Kentucky Bourbon Barrel Ale\, their flagship\, is internationally recognized and has been awarded accordingly.  They are at the forefront of the barrel aging movement and are a prime example of what makes barrel aging great.  Unlike most breweries that barrel age\, Alltech produces their own barrels\, creating a flavor that is entirely Alltech.  We are very excited to have this brewery come in for a tasting.  It is not every day such a unique brewery comes to us here at Colonial for a tasting.  Make sure to get down here to taste and learn from this very special brewery.  Don’t miss out.  Clear your schedule for 4-6pm May 29th.

SUMMARY:Spencer Trappist & Bantam Cider Tasting
DESCRIPTION:On May 16th we are having a two-for-one tasting.  While both drink makers are producing high quality beverages\, they are in two very different categories.  First we have a Trappist Ale from Spencer.  Brewed by the Monk’s of Saint Joseph’s Abbey in Spencer\, MA\, this ale is quickly becoming one of the most highly sought out brews from Massachusetts.  Unfiltered and unpasteurized\, Spencer is golden hued\, full body\, with accents of fruit and subtle hop bitterness.   The other libations we will be tasting are from Bantam\, a cidery out of Somerville.  Bantam produces some high quality\, small batch ciders.  We will be tasting their flagship Wunderkind\, a light and crisp cider\, and the Rojo\, a cider which is aged with sour cherries and black peppercorn and uses an ale yeast.  Come out between 4-6pm to taste these two relatively new\, but well received beverages.  Our old friend Pat Suleski.
