DESCRIPTION:Ever wonder what it takes to homebrew?\nThen this is the event for you. Home brewing\, at the heels of craft brewing\, has exploded. More and more basement/garages are turning into brewing stations and more and more homebrewers are becoming bonified brewers. However\, not every homebrewer is looking to expand past the limits of their current walls. But who doesn’t like to think they could make it BIG? Who doesn’t want to see their homebrew make it? This is the event for those dreamers. \nBill has hand selected a few local homebrewers for all to try and cast votes. The idea here is to have fun and offer up your thoughts while learning what it takes to homebrew if you don’t already do it. Some of the contestants have been homebrewing for quite some time\, while others are new to the game. All are willing to put their work on the line to see how it stacks up. \n \nThis event is open to all whether you know your different hop varieties and the flavors they impart or are just getting a grasp on IPAs.\nThis is how it will work. The event will be taking place at our store on Saturday\, April 29 from 1-5 PM. Entries will be placed in one of two categories\, light and dark beers. Tasters will try a few and once they have had their share will cast their vote picking their favorites. Votes will be tallied at the end of the event and the winner will be announced via email\, FB\, and Instagram. One winner per category. \nWe want everyone to stop by and sample through a few of the homebrews as this is a great opportunity to learn about beers. Homebrewers are serious beer enthusiasts that take the time to come up with mash bills and brew templates. DESCRIPTION:This is a first for me.  Never have I dealt with a brewery at has the label “Imperial\,” but that is just what this Wolcott\, CT brewery is.  Great Good Imperial Brewing Co. is America’s first all-imperial brewery.  Every beer they brew is never below 8% and they can go as high as 14%.  There is a some definite buzz surrounding them and for good reason.  We will having them here to pour their entire line up\, including their 12% imperial IPA.

DESCRIPTION:Hailing from Everett\, we have been carrying Down the Road since they first started brewing beer.  Over the last few years\, these guys have kept on chugging along and producing ales and lagers that have earned a good amount of buzz in this beer world of ours.  It has been a while since we have had them come in to pour their offerings so we’re gunna change that.  Mike from Down the Road will be here tasting beers like Seventh Star IPA\, Pukwudgie Pale Ale\, Springheel Jack London Porter\, and their Cherry Feyborn Berliner Weisse.  THis is a brewery that is gathering a dedicated following and significant buzz in Massachusetts\, which isn’t always easy in this market overflowing with great sudz.

DESCRIPTION:Night Shift has been making some of the best beer in the state for a while now\, but they were always just out of reach of our shelves.  Then\, just before Christmas\, that all changed.  Since bringing them in to the store\, we have had over 10 different beers from them.  And you\, the consumer\, have been enjoying it.  We run through dozens of cases a week and they just keep sending us fresh\, hop forward cans as well as funky and sour bottles. \nIt took a little bit\, but we are finally having the Everett brewers in for a tasting.  If you have never tried Night Shift\, come down.  We know our beer and are constantly exploring what is out there\, so please trust me when I say that they are one of the top breweries in Massachusetts.  Their offerings change from week to week\, depending on what they have just brewed\, but know that what we are pouring will be fresh\, flavorful\, and well made.

DESCRIPTION:Stony Creek hasn’t even been in Massachusetts for a full year and they are already popping up everywhere.  Beautiful logos\, interesting styles and a strong command of hops\, these Connecticut brewers are not trying to fly away anytime soon.  Just in time for our tasting\, they have just released Stony Joe\, a golden mocha stout.  Golden stouts are going to start popping up more and more.  They are just what they sound like\, a stout that pours golden yellow.  It’s a style I am still figuring out\, so get in on the early days to say you’ve had one.   On top of Stony Joe\, we’ll be tasting the Crankys in varying sizes.

They are produced right here in MA. \nTodd Bellomy\, head brewer at Dovetail\, honed his art in Japan and brought here to Massachusetts with one thing in mind\, freshness. Because most of the Sakes available to us are either from Japan\, California or Oregon they aren’t as fresh as they could be. He wanted to change this by producing actual Sake using traditional methods and getting it to restaurants and retailers as fresh as possible. I would keep going on the subject but I wouldn’t do it nearly as much justice as the Boston Magazine did with the article Drink This Now: Nakahama Junmai\, by Dovetail Sake. SUMMARY:Goose Island Bourbon County Vintage Tasting
DESCRIPTION:With all the Goose Island fever going around here at Colonial\, what better way to end it all that with our biggest tasting of them all.  On December 7th\, starting at 6pm\, we will be opening bottles of Bourbon County Brand Stout\, Coffee\, and Barleywine going back to at least 2013.  While we are keeping the line up close to the chest for a while\, I will divulge that we will be opening some special bottles from previous years.  Which ones?  How old?  There is only one way of finding out.  This was a very popular event last year\, so make sure to keep an eye out for that special Hop on the Bus email.  Like last year\, you will have to RSVP and pay for your ticket.  Space was very limited last year with only 20 spots and it is looking like that will be the case again this year.  While this event is still a ways away\, but I would like plant the seed early.  Stay alert\, because a tasting of this caliber only comes once a year.

DESCRIPTION:We did this back in October and it was a lot of fun.  So much fun that we decided to do it all over again.  December 2nd\, starting at 6pm\, we will be opening bottles of Sofie and Matilda from this year as well as bottles of Lolita\, Juliet\, Halia\, Madame Rose\, and Gillian all from 2015. With wild ales like these\, we found that giving them a year to sit and mellow out was the right call\, so we’re doing it again.  Keep an eye out for an email in which you can RSVP to.  This was a fun\, relaxed tasting in which we had some fun with some very nice\, rather expensive beers.  It is a great opportunity to try a $30 bottle of fruit added sour ale without paying the $30 price tag.  It does hurt that instead of one\, we will be tasting five.

SUMMARY:GOOSE ISLAND BLACK FRIDAY!!
DESCRIPTION:For the second year in a row we will host the Goose Island Black Friday Bourbon Country release. This was a huge success last year and we don’t see why it won’t be again. We will be opening our doors at 9am on Friday\, November 25th. Once the doors open\, we will be funneling people into our tasting room where we will have the Barleywine\, Coffee\, and Brand Stout. It will be first come\, first serve\, so I would recommend getting here early. To put it in perspective\, the first people showed up last year around 5:30am. We will have a limit on the Brand Stout\, but it will be over a case. We have not decided the limits on the Barleywine yet\, but due to the lack of stock on Coffee\, we will be limiting it to one bottle per person. We will also have previous years’ Barleywine and Brand Stout for sale as well. \nWhile waiting in line and walking around the store\, we will be pouring samples of the 2016 Brand Stout\, 2014 Brand Stout and 2014 Barleywine as well as be handing out free pastries. Hopefully everyone will not eat so much the day before that they cannot wolf down a few sweet treats.

SUMMARY:Sam Adams Stein Hoisting Competition.
DESCRIPTION:You might have seen this in a Sam Adams commercial.  A bunch of people standing in a circle\, holding a full beer stein out in front of them for as long as they can.  What you might not have known is that if you can hold a stein in front of you long enough\, Sam Adams will send you to Las Vegas to compete in the National Stein Hoisting competition.  The winner of that will be sent to next years Oktoberfest in Munich to compete in the World Championships.  Think you’ve got the shoulder strength and endurance to go all the way?  Come out Saturday October 15th when we will be an official location for people to try to qualify for this competition.  People will be hoisting steins outside\, but we will also be grilling up burgers and hotdogs.  On the inside\, we’ll have tastings of Sam Adams\, Angry Orchard\, and Truly Seltzer.  We’ll have plenty of beer swag for people to take home\, but the top times will bring home their own Steins. Everyone who enters the competition will be part of a raffle for a charcoal grill courtesy of Sam Adams.  Come test your shoulder endurance and join us Saturday October 15th from 1-3pm.

DESCRIPTION:Despite being relatively new to our shelves and to Massachusetts\, Stony Creek is making an impact.  Their Cranky line up has everything you need.  Little Cranky is the session IPA\, Cranky their IPA\, and Big Cranky is their double IPA.  Besides these staples\, they have beers for those looking for something other than hoppiness.  Recently their Dock Time won a gold medal for Amber beer and I think it is maybe the best amber we have on our shelves.  But I’ll let you all come to your own conclusions at our first Brewery of the Month tasting.  July 9th\, 1-3pm.

DESCRIPTION:This brewery (or brasserie) from Quebec offers us some solid additions.  Quebec has a really wonderful beer culture and these guys are a fine example of that.  We’ll be tasting their two IPAs and an amber.  We had a very good response from everyone who came out to try the beers with Frank when he was in last.  So if you tried it\, please swing by for a free taste again.  If not\, I would recommend one of the best bang-for-buck secrets in the store.
