SUMMARY:Thanksgiving Dinner with Sue
DESCRIPTION:Nothing beats a homecooked Thanksgiving dinner.\nExcept Thanksgiving dinner paired with some great wines. \nWe regularly talk about how wine pairs well with food. In some cases\, you have to take our word for it because the food isn’t in front of you. This tasting takes the guesswork out of the equation. Sue\, almost an employee if you ask us\, will be stopping by with a handful of wines and platters full of food. From turkey to gravy and from white to red wines\, Sue will help us make the right pairings. The difference being\, you will experience it first-hand. Sue will be providing a Thanksgiving dinner that will have all of the fixin’s and the wines to go with it. Nibble hear\, sip there and you will see just how well the wines interact with the food. No need to worry about the outcome because you will get to pick your favorite pairings. \nOutside of our Grand tastings\, this is the most talked about event of the year.\nThis has become an annual tasting because of how well received it has been. Come on\, free food and good wine. How much better does it get? So if you find yourself stressing over what to serve this Thanksgiving\, this event is for you. You will be able to leave our store confident with your wine pairing choices. \nThe lineup: \nDr. Heyden Silvaner Rheinhessen\nLeft Field Pinot Gris Nelson\nZabu Nero d’Avola\nDupueble Beaujolais Rosé\nMont Marcal Cava Brut Reserva\nColene Clemens Pinot Noir Dopp Creek Chehalem Mtn

SUMMARY:Annual Fall Grand Wine Tasting
DESCRIPTION:Welcome to our Annual Fall Grand Wine Tasting!\nWhat is better than wine? In case you didn’t know the answer\, it is\, nothing. Nothing is better than wine. Whiskey might have some history but all the magic happens in the barrel. Beer\, on the other hand\, requires the guidance of the head brewer. Wine is a bit of everything. From the vineyards to the vines to the grapes and ending with barrels\, wine is a novel and not a short story. \nThere is more to wine than what is in the glass. Sure\, it can be broken down to crushed grapes that fermented and put into a barrel. But real wines have a real story and to better understand the wine you have to understand its history. And\, sometimes\, to better understand the wine you have to understand the culture surrounding it. Easier said than done. \nWith so many different offerings it can be daunting to pick the “right one.” That is where we step in. We have both the wines and the story\, at the very least the people that know the story. Whether it is a fruit-forward Pinot Noir\, an enticing Gruner Veltliner\, or a soft-spoken Beaujolais there will be wines and stories abound. \nSo take the time out of your busy schedule to stop by and enjoy an afternoon of good wines and stories. \nCheers!

SUMMARY:The Annual Colonial Spirits Oktoberfest 9/28 1-5 PM
DESCRIPTION:  \nIt’s that time of the year again folks! One of the biggest events we host at Colonial Spirits is back for all of your enjoyment. SUMMARY:Spring Grand Wine Tasting 2019
DESCRIPTION:The first of our three largest wine-related events: 2019 Spring Grand Wine Tasting\nSpring is in full force\, rain and all\, and summer vacation is around the corner. With so many new wines flooding in for the beginning of the vacation season\, the task of finding a new summer favorite can be daunting. Which is why so many of us go back to familiar favorites. Trying to pick a wine based on descriptors\, write-ups\, and reviews can be overwhelming because who has ever tried limestone? Let us take the guesswork out of wine buying. \nThis Saturday\, from 2-5 PM\, we will be hosting our first of three grand tastings. The Spring Grand Tasting focuses on wines that are light\, fun and made to quench your thirst on those hot summer days. Light reds\, whites\, and rosés (and a sparkler or two) will be on full display this afternoon for your sampling pleasure. With at least 50 bottles to pick from\, there will be a wine for everyone. \nFrom the exotic hills of Provence to the valleys of Marlborough (NZ) and onto the cool terrains of Austria.\nThere will be wines from across the globe that range from light and slightly effervescent to citrus\, tangy\, and mouthwatering. The goal is to not only display the multitude of wines we have to offer but also educate your palate on what is out there. Wine should not be a hard-boiled-egg (as tasty as that may be)\, it should fun and bring back happy memories. Even if that memory is as simple as having come across a particular wine at a local event. This tasting is to help you explore the wonderful world of wine. \nThe Lineup:\n \n\n\n\n\n\n\nGary Parsons\nDomaine Blondeau Sancerre Rose\n\n\n\nBouchard Bourgogne Rouge Pinot Noir\n\n\n\nMarco Felluga “Mongris” Pinot Grigio\n\n\n\nAia Vecchia “Langone” Rosso Toscana\n\n\n\nChateau Routas Rosé Coteaux Varois en Provence\n\n\n\nChateau Gassier “Espirit” Rose\n\n\n\nAia Vecchia Vermentino Toscana\n\n\n\n\n\n\nMichael Seidel\nStarmont Chardonnay Carneros\n\n\n\nNotios by Gai’a White Peloponnisos\n\n\n\nNotios by Gai’a Red Peloponnisos\n\n\n\nFritz Muller Perlwein Muller-Thurgau Rheinhessen\n\n\n\nMas Ste Berthe Rosé Les Baux-de-Provence\n\n\n\nJames Bryant Hill Estate Pinot Noir Central Coast\n\n\n\n\n\n\nMark Colantonio\nSonoma Cutrer Rosé of Pinot Noir RRV\n\n\n\nClos Pegase Mitsuko Vyd Sauv Blanc Carneros\n\n\n\nCarlos Serres Rioja Reserva\n\n\n\nDonnafugata Anthilia Bianco Sicilia\n\n\n\nMaison Saleya Rosé Coteaux d’Aix en Provence\n\n\n\n\n\n\nDave Bender\nBenjamin Leroux Auxey-Duresses\n\n\n\nChampagne Moutard Grande Cuvée Brut NV\n\n\n\nGerard Boulay ‘Sybylle’ Sancerre Rosé\n\n\n\nStafford Hill Pinot Noir Willamette Vly\n\n\n\nMessanges Rouge by Pallus Chinon\n\n\n\nLa Val Albariño Rias Baixas\n\n\n\n\n\n\nTim Laskey\nCasale del Giglio Chardonnay Lazio\n\n\n\nStoneburn Pinot Noir Marlborough\n\n\n\nWithout Papers White Blend\n\n\n\nSansilvestro ‘Primaio’ Dolcetto d’Alba\n\n\n\nPellehaut Blanc Harmonie de Gascogne\n\n\n\nPellehaut Rosé Harmonie de Gascogne\n\n\n\n\n\n\nBarbara Cloonan\nSeaSun Chardonnay California\n\n\n\nWither HIlls Pinot Noir Marlborough\n\n\n\nBatasiolo Moscato d’Asti\n\n\n\nElk Cove Estate Pinot Noir Rosé Willamette Vly\n\n\n\nCarmen Gran Reserva Carmenere Apalta\n\n\n\nFantini Cerasuolo d’Abruzzo\n\n\n\nMAN Free-run Chenin Blanc Coastal Region\n\n\n\n\n\n\nTony Branco\nAndresen 10yr White Porto\n\n\n\nDuquesa de la Victoria Rioja Crianza\n\n\n\nTombacco Biferno Rosso Riserva\n\n\n\n47 Anno Domini Prosecco\n\n\n\nMonte Velho by Esporao Tinto Alentejo\n\n\n\nCabriz Rosé Dão\n\n\n\n\n\n\nGary Routenberg\nCh du Seuil Graves Rouge\n\n\n\nCh Patache d’Aux Cru Bourgeois Medoc Rouge\n\n\n\nDampt Freres Chevalier d’Eon Bourgogne Tonnerre\n\n\n\nFont Sarade Plan de Dieu Cuvée Egoiste\n\n\n\nJ. SUMMARY:Grand Wine Tastings: Winter 2018
DESCRIPTION:Finally in writing are our Grand Wine Tastings for 2018.\nOur seasonal Grand Wine Tastings are events that look at what we have done and have to offer. These tastings represent the wine department because the encompass the breadth of the department. Unlike the Try Something New tastings that will be taking place\, the GWT allow you to try old favorites alongside newcomers. And in a dynamic business like ours\, taking time to try wines is important. With so many to choose from\, it is nice to sample them. \nStill into oaky Chardonnay? We will have them. Never tried a Muscadet? They will be there. Want to sample an extravagant Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon? You can bet a bottle or two will be available to try. \nBut why stop there!\nWith an opportunity to try 50 or more bottles of wine\, there will be plenty to go around and choose from. The Grand Wine Tastings are our most visited events and anticipated events for a reason. We aren’t looking to push an agenda or force-feed you the latest find. No! We want our customers to sample through what we have to offer and find their favorite. Maybe you are tired of your go-to and are looking for the new table topper. This is the event for you. Maybe you want to see if there are other wines that feel familiar but offer up a unique twist. This is the event for that. \nThere are so many different wines out there. Why limit yourself. \nSo…If you are looking for a change and on a hunt\, stop by and see what will be available. \nAs always\, this event is free to the public. Bring family and friends and enjoy an afternoon of times with good wines. \nIn conjunction with the Grand Wine Tastings\, we will also be hosting our Try Something New wine tastings. To see those dates CLICK HERE. \n

SUMMARY:Grand Wine Tastings: Spring 2018

SUMMARY:50th Anniversary Grand Tasting at Quail Ridge
DESCRIPTION:50th Anniversary Grand Tasting. 50 Years\, The Golden Anniversary. 50 Years of ‘Thank Yous’ in one great event.\nThat’s right\, we have been in business for 50 years and we are still going strong. From our first location to 69 Great Rd\, aka the Clock building\, to our current location\, one thing has remained the same\, our service. We take pride in the services we offer and the gusto we do it with. We enjoy what we do\, especially when we can share it with others. Thank you\, all. Without past employees and customers\, and current employees and customers we wouldn’t have made it this far. \nThe 50th Anniversary Grand Tasting is a way to appreciate all the years we have under our belt.\nIn a year of changes\, we thought it would be nice to coordinate a tasting that took place at a venue that offered more room. Past Grand Tastings occurred over two consecutive Saturdays due to space. The lack of space pushed us to look elsewhere\, and so we did. Proximity to the store was a large priority\, as were scenery and accommodations. Quail Ridge has it all. From the space to accommodate 13+ tables to the lush green grass growing on the 1st fairway\, Quail Ridge is the perfect spot. So we booked the venue\, set the date\, and we are now counting down the days to our 50th Anniversary Grand Tasting. \nWhat does this mean for you? A bigger and better representation of what we enjoy doing.\nWine is all about enjoyment\, and presenting great wines is what we enjoy doing. From classic regions like Piedmont to modern regions like Umpqua Valley in Oregon\, a Grand Wine Tasting should have it all. More importantly\, it should have the best. These are the reasons for going to Quail Ridge and for having a tasting unlike any before. 50 years is a long time to be in business\, so what better way to celebrate than with a wine tasting with over 100 bottles of wine. \nMore importantly\, we will have it all. \nSparkling\, red\, white\, rosé\, port wines\, and more. There will be something for everyone. In addition\, we will have plenty of finger food\, water\, and the opportunity to save on your purchase. This will be the event of the season\, and we couldn’t have picked a better venue for it. \nPut it on your calendar now because you won’t want to miss this tasting. \n \n\n\n\n\n\n\nDavid Turcan\nJermann Pinot Grigio Venezia Giulia\n\n\n\nPalazzo della Torre by Allegrini Rosso Veronese\n\n\n\nPieropan Soave Classico\n\n\n\nRenato Ratti ‘Battaglione’ Barbera d’Asti\n\n\n\nRenato Ratti ‘Ochetti’ Nebbiolo d’Alba\n\n\n\nLa Grola by Allegrini Rosso Veronese\n\n\n\nAllegrini Valpolicella Classico\n\n\n\nSolosole by Poggio al Tesoro Vermentinto Toscana\n\n\n\n\n\n\nRob George\nAbbot’s Table by Owen Roe Red Blend Columbia Valley\n\n\n\nMessanges Rouge by Domaine de Pallus Chinon\n\n\n\nSiete by Vinos de Terruños Tinto Rioja\n\n\n\nBohigas Cava Brut Reserva\n\n\n\nJones of Washington Pinot Gris Columbia Valley\n\n\n\nBigaro by Elio Perrone\n\n\n\nValdespino ‘Contrabandista’ Amontillado Medium-Dry\n\n\n\n  \n\n\n\n\n\n\nNic Haegeli\nMicaela by Bodegas Baron Cream Sherry\n\n\n\nLa Sacristie de la Vieille Cure Fronsac\n\n\n\nAntica Fratta Franciacorta Brut\n\n\n\nTamaral Tinto Ribera del Duero Reserva\n\n\n\nDomaine Pierre Janny ‘Challand’ Bourgogne Chardonnay\n\n\n\nBranko Friulano Collio\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n\n\n\nRick Lacasse\nBlack Stallion Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley\n\n\n\nLa Crema Pinot Gris Monterey\n\n\n\nVina Alberdi by La Rioja Alta Rioja Reserva\n\n\n\nTerrasses by Chateau Pesquie Rouge Ventoux\n\n\n\nEroica by Che Ste Michelle & Dr. Loosen Riesling Columbia Valley\n\n\n\nCascinetta by Vietti Moscato d’Asti\n\n\n\nDuval-Leroy Champagne Brut NV\n\n\n\n\n\n\nElena Lucero\nFable by Brack Mountain Pinot Meunier S.V. SUMMARY:Colonial Spirits Oktoberfest 2017!
DESCRIPTION:Guten Tag!  Join us This Saturday\, 9/23 from 1-5 p.m. for the Colonial Spirits Oktoberfest experience!\n\n \nThe days are quickly dwindling until we host our annual Oktoberfest here inside the walls of Colonial Spirits.  No\, there will be no tents or week-long festivals as you traditionally see in Germany.  And\, no\, unfortunately we cannot actually pour boots of beer\, though we’d love to (sorry!).  However\, we will have a day of beer tasting with Colonial Spirits flare! \nThere will be several traditional Oktoberfests and Marzens to try\, as well as our most popular American fall seasonal\, the pumpkin ale\, in abundance!  We will also be pouring tastes of fall seasonal beers that reach outside of both of these categories from some of the best breweries in America.  We will also be serving Bratwurst\, Sauerkraut and pretzels!   We hope to see you Saturday! \nTschüss! (for now!) \n  \n

SUMMARY:Oktoberfest 2017: Where the Fun Is
DESCRIPTION:Ein Prosit! Welcome\, to Oktoberfest 2017.\nWhat festival is better than Oktoberfest? Carnival\, maybe. But for the sake of argument\, none. This is the one time of year where enjoying a good beer with friends for a week long extravaganza is not frowned upon. For the rest of the year\, this behavior is usually frowned upon. But for that one week\, the rest of the world disappears and the only thing that matters is keeping your glass half full. \nUnfortunately\, blue laws hold us back so week long binge drinking is not considered the wisest of choices. That doesn’t mean we can’t have fun. In fact\, that is exactly what we are proposing. Join us for our Annual Oktoberfest where gut bier is on the menu. From traditional O-fest beers to the modern pumpkin ale\, this Oktoberfest will be as good as it gets. \nLike past festivals\, we will be playing a medley of O-fest songs over the speakers throughout the event while offering free grub for attendees. This usually includes Bratwurst\, sauerkraut\, and pretzels. \nThis event is always free of charge so feel free to stop by. \nProst!! ?

SUMMARY:O'Hara's Irish Ales
DESCRIPTION:In order to make sure everyone is making the most informed decision they can on Saint Patrick’s Day\, we are bringing Ireland’s less known brewery in for a tasting.  O’Hara’s as been doing their thing since 1996\, but while relatively new to the game compared to some of the other Irish Breweries\, they make beers that stand up to anything else coming from the Emerald Isle.  We’ll be pouring out everything these guys send our way\, so give them a change before reaching for something else.

SUMMARY:Goose Island Bourbon County Vintage Tasting
DESCRIPTION:With all the Goose Island fever going around here at Colonial\, what better way to end it all that with our biggest tasting of them all.  On December 7th\, starting at 6pm\, we will be opening bottles of Bourbon County Brand Stout\, Coffee\, and Barleywine going back to at least 2013.  While we are keeping the line up close to the chest for a while\, I will divulge that we will be opening some special bottles from previous years.  Which ones?  How old?  There is only one way of finding out.  This was a very popular event last year\, so make sure to keep an eye out for that special Hop on the Bus email.  Like last year\, you will have to RSVP and pay for your ticket.  Space was very limited last year with only 20 spots and it is looking like that will be the case again this year.  While this event is still a ways away\, but I would like plant the seed early.  Stay alert\, because a tasting of this caliber only comes once a year.

SUMMARY:Goose Island Wild Ale #2
DESCRIPTION:We did this back in October and it was a lot of fun.  So much fun that we decided to do it all over again.  December 2nd\, starting at 6pm\, we will be opening bottles of Sofie and Matilda from this year as well as bottles of Lolita\, Juliet\, Halia\, Madame Rose\, and Gillian all from 2015. With wild ales like these\, we found that giving them a year to sit and mellow out was the right call\, so we’re doing it again.  Keep an eye out for an email in which you can RSVP to.  This was a fun\, relaxed tasting in which we had some fun with some very nice\, rather expensive beers.  It is a great opportunity to try a $30 bottle of fruit added sour ale without paying the $30 price tag.  It does hurt that instead of one\, we will be tasting five.

SUMMARY:GOOSE ISLAND BLACK FRIDAY!!
DESCRIPTION:For the second year in a row we will host the Goose Island Black Friday Bourbon Country release. This was a huge success last year and we don’t see why it won’t be again. We will be opening our doors at 9am on Friday\, November 25th. Once the doors open\, we will be funneling people into our tasting room where we will have the Barleywine\, Coffee\, and Brand Stout. It will be first come\, first serve\, so I would recommend getting here early. To put it in perspective\, the first people showed up last year around 5:30am. We will have a limit on the Brand Stout\, but it will be over a case. We have not decided the limits on the Barleywine yet\, but due to the lack of stock on Coffee\, we will be limiting it to one bottle per person. We will also have previous years’ Barleywine and Brand Stout for sale as well. \nWhile waiting in line and walking around the store\, we will be pouring samples of the 2016 Brand Stout\, 2014 Brand Stout and 2014 Barleywine as well as be handing out free pastries. Hopefully everyone will not eat so much the day before that they cannot wolf down a few sweet treats.

SUMMARY:Ciders of Spain and Food Pairings
DESCRIPTION:Come try an incredibly diverse range of Spanish ciders paired with foods that bring out their unique earthy\, tart and sour qualities. The “sidra” will be paired with an assortment of charcuterie such as cured meats\, olives\, earthy cheeses\, and even a fig almond torta.  Styles range from traditionals which are close to sour beer\, sparklers reminiscent of Champagne\, Prosecco & Albarino\, to  a wild yeast fermented pear and sherry-like frost cider. Except for the dessert frost cider\, all the offerings are uncommonly dry\, low in sugar and exceedingly refreshing.\n\nNo cost to participate\, just bring an appetite for learning and discover why “sidra” is arguably the most food friendly and storied of fermented beverages\, with a legacy dating back more than 3000 years! The tasting will be led by Ken Zuckerman of Ciders of Spain\, a 20 year veteran educator in craft beer\, artisanal food & cider.

SUMMARY:Sam Adams Stein Hoisting Competition.
DESCRIPTION:You might have seen this in a Sam Adams commercial.  A bunch of people standing in a circle\, holding a full beer stein out in front of them for as long as they can.  What you might not have known is that if you can hold a stein in front of you long enough\, Sam Adams will send you to Las Vegas to compete in the National Stein Hoisting competition.  The winner of that will be sent to next years Oktoberfest in Munich to compete in the World Championships.  Think you’ve got the shoulder strength and endurance to go all the way?  Come out Saturday October 15th when we will be an official location for people to try to qualify for this competition.  People will be hoisting steins outside\, but we will also be grilling up burgers and hotdogs.  On the inside\, we’ll have tastings of Sam Adams\, Angry Orchard\, and Truly Seltzer.  We’ll have plenty of beer swag for people to take home\, but the top times will bring home their own Steins. Everyone who enters the competition will be part of a raffle for a charcoal grill courtesy of Sam Adams. Come test your shoulder endurance and join us Saturday October 15th from 1-3pm.

SUMMARY:7th Annual Fall Grand Wine Tasting - Part 2
DESCRIPTION:Welcome\, to our 7th Annual Fall Grand Wine Tasting. We find ourselves\, once again\, heading into fall and nothing defines the changing of the season more than the switch from white wine to red wine. However\, all is not lost for white wine because this grand wine tasting doesn’t focus on just red wines\, in fact\, white\, rosé\, and sparkling wines all make an appearance. This is the most dynamic of our “Grand Tastings” as the focus is on wines that pair well with fall. What says the night is young like a good\, oaky Chardonnay. Or\, better yet\, ever had grilled salmon with a hearty Pinot Noir? Regardless of whether you have an affinity for or an aversion to red or white wine\, there will be something here for everyone. \nLike past grand wine tastings\, this is a two-weekend event. Neither weekend is the same. None of the reps are the same\, so none of the wines are the same. Each weekend is unique\, so if you miss one weekend you have missed the opportunity to try around 50 or so unique wines. I would recommend coming to both\, but I know life can get in the way. \nCall family and friends and make an afternoon of it\, because there are few events like these. \nCarpe Vinum! \nHere is a short list pf what we will be pouring: \n\n\n\n\n\n\nBroadside ‘Wild Ferment’ Chardonnay Edna Vly\n\n\nLandhaus-Mayer Gruner Veltliner Austria\n\n\nCh. SUMMARY:7th Annual Spring Grand Wine Tasting - Part 2
DESCRIPTION:Welcome\, to our 7th Annual Spring Grand Wine Tasting. \nFor those that are new to the area and haven’t been to one of our Grand tastings before\, you are in for a real treat. For the regulars out there\, you know what you are getting yourself into. \nThe Spring Grand Wine Tasting is the first of three Grand Wine Tastings that we have each year. Like the Fall Grand and Winter Big Red\, the Spring Grand Tasting is a two-part event that takes place over two consecutive weekends from 2-5 PM. Each weekend is unique so coming to both is highly advised\, but not necessary. Over the course of the event\, we will have opened and sampled around 100 bottles of different wines\, which averages to around 50 unique bottles per weekend. \nThe Spring Grand Wine Tasting\, like the season\, is our transition from the heavier winter reds to the lighter wines\, i.e. Rosés\, whites\, and sparklers. The Spring Grand Wine Tasting is not only a perfect opportunity to sample our newest offerings\, but also a means of sampling newer vintages of old favorites. And with Rosé season in full swing and an abundance of them to choose from\, there is no way of picking the wrong one if you sampled it first. \nIn addition to a stellar selection\, we will be offering our 25% discount on 12+ bottles of wines. SUMMARY:7th Annual Spring Grand Wine Tasting - Part 1
Rosés\, whites and sparklers. The Spring Grand Wine Tasting is not only a perfect opportunity to sample our newest offerings\, but also a means of having questions you may have answered. And with Rosé season being in full swing and an abundance of them to choose from\, there is no way of picking the wrong one if you sampled it first. \nIn addition to a stellar selection\, we will be offering our 25% discount on 12+ bottles of wines. The 12+ bottles can be mix-n-matched and can be from either weekend. However\, in order to qualify for the discount\, the 12+ bottles have to be from the event. All other wines will adhere to our regular discount policy. \nMark your calendar (paper or electronic)\, hire a babysitter or bring the kids along\, don’t chew gum or suck on mints\, and join us for our Spring Grand Wine Tasting\, an event not to be missed. \nCarpe Vinum! \nHere is a sample of what we will be pouring: \nChateau Routas Rose Coteaux Varios en Provence\nCline Pinot Noir Sonoma County\nGrgich Hills Fumé Blanc Napa Valley\nMarcel Martin Muscadet Sèvre-et-Maine Les Vieilles Vignes\nDomaine Celestin Blondeau Sancerre Cuvee de Moulins Bales\nDomaine de Fondrèche Côtes du Ventoux Rosé \nCa’ Del Monte Valpolicella Classico\n375mL Poquito Moscato\nLamoreaux Landing Dry Riesling Finger Lakes\nDom Diogo ‘Vinhao’ Tinto Vinho Verde\nClos Cibonne Tibouren Rosé Cotes de Provence Cru Classe\nValdibella ‘Isolano’ Sicilia \n90+ Cellars:\nLot 120 Pinot Gris California\nLot 65 French Fusion White Languedoc\nLot 42 Pinot Grigio Trentino\nLot 122 Chardonnay Mendocino\nLot 125 Pinot Noir Monterey\nLot 118 Sauvignon Blanc Coteaux de Gennois\nLot 50 Prosecco Brut \n(Get more info here: Spring Grand Wine Tasting.)
