DESCRIPTION:This is the first of our Varietal Series and as expected\, we are coming out with a BANG!  Bordeaux is one of the most recognizable names when it comes to wines\, and\, like so many\, when we hear that name mentioned we think of expressive wines with a lot of history and character.  Bordeaux should not be taken lightly\, likewise\, wines that are made in a similar fashion should not be taken lightly either\, and so they won’t be.  We are putting together a line-up\, of about 24 bottles\, of wines from around the world that best represent a region and its capacity to produce wines of the same caliber as that of Bordeaux. DESCRIPTION:Although a relatively young Champagne producer\, about 25 years old\, Thienot has broken ground and done what has taken others years to do; produce some of the most elegant champagnes in the market. Champagne by Thienot are predominantly Chardonnay which provides an elegance to the wines that few have been able to recreate. SUMMARY:Mise Wine Tasting
DESCRIPTION:Here’s a description on what we’ll be pouring… \nPoggio Trevvalle…\n\n\nPoggio Trevvalle is the name given to a small hill located in Maremma\, Tuscany\, between the towns of Grosseto and Campagnatico. Brothers Umberto and Bernardo bought the farm in 1998 of which 17 total hectares are planted to 14 hectares of vines. They aim to make bottled estate wines in the most natural and simple way\, at an affordable price\, that are pleasing to drink on any occasion. They believe the taste and flavor of a wine will be unique and inimitable if the grapes from which it is made are the full expression of the specific nature of a countryside (soil and microclimate). The vines absorb the terroir through their roots and leaves and transfer it to the grapes. To make this happen in the most complete way the soil has to be ‘alive’ – not unnaturally mineralized with chemical fertilizers or lacking in micro flora and fauna due to the use of herbicides. Moreover\, the leaves of the vines and the yeast on the skin of the grapes have to be able to absorb all the elements of the microclimate (wind\, light\, humidity\, heat etc.) without their natural functions being altered by the use of chemical fungicides. This is why Umberto and Bernardo chose to cultivate the vines organically in order that the grapes\, and therefore the wines\, be a true expression of our ‘terroir’ and commitment.\n\n\n\nPoggio Trevvalle ‘Passera’ Morellino di Scansano 2010…Passera is half estate and half puchased fruit from a neighbor of the Valle brothers. Organically farmed\, wild yeast fermented. It is a great introduction to Poggio Trevvalle. Mostly Sangiovese with a little Colorino and Cillegiolo and fermented in stainless steel. It has rustic \, country\, wild cherry fruit with spice\, dry tannins and a touch of coastal brine. Unfiltered.\n$11.98/on-sale\, regularly $15.99\n\nPoggio Trevvalle Santippe IGT 2010…Santippe is Italian for Xanthippe\, who was the famed ‘shrewish’ wife of Socrates\, and is a play on the finicky yet strong natured personality of Sangiovese. 100% estate Sangiovese from the youngest vineyards\, this wine is stainless steel fermented\, then malolactic fermented and refined in concrete. Vibrant juicy fruit and berries\, wild strawberry leads to a touch of salinity and bright acidity\, iodine\, medium leathered tannins\, and a lingering graphite mineral finish. Unfiltered.\n$12.98/on-sale\, regularly $16.99\n\nPoggio Trevvalle Morellino di Scansano DOCG 2010…Morellino is the local name for the variety of Sangiovese in this DOCG. The wine is 90 percent Sangiovese\, 7 percent Merlot\, and 3 percent Alicante all estate grown. Fermented in steel\, malolactic in concrete and then aged in large used oak. Bottle aged at least three months before release. Bright Cherry fruit on the nose with a hint of savory herbs\, musk\, medium bodied\, dry tannins with iron\, graphite long lasting mineral finish. Unfiltered.\n$14.98/on-sale\, regularly $19.99\n\n\nPascal Pibaleau…\nA fourth generation grower/producer from the village of Azay Le Rideau(between Tours and Chinon)\, Touraine\, central Loire Valley. His great grandfather started the domaine in 1886. The soils are clay and limestone\, 15 hectares\, planted to Chenin Blanc\, Cabernet Franc\, Gamay\, Grolleau\, and Cot. He hand harvests from low 35 hcl/hct yields\, practices indigenous wild yeast fermentations\, eschewing manipulations in the winery and has been certified Biodynamic. As a younger man he even trained in Champagne so as you will see\, this great winemaker knows how to make sparkling wine.\n\nCremant de Loire Blanc 2006 Brut…Traditonal method\, 100% Chenin Blanc shows Quince and Green apple fruit\, very dry due to non dosage(no sugar added). This 2006 spent 3 years on the lees which shows great complexity. A developed yeasty quality underneath the cidery apple fruit\, lively acidity and lingering chalk mineral finish.\n$15.98/on-sale\, regularly $21.99\n\nCremant de Loire Rose 2009…\n Traditonal Method\, 65% Cabernet Franc/35% Grolleau\, Vibrant\, ripe strawberry fruit with a hint of rhubarb\, savory herbal notes\, still finshes dry under that ripe fruit \,this 2009 spent 9 months on the lees\, light and friendly bubbles and lingering mineral finish.\n$14.98/on-sale\, regularly $19.99
