SUMMARY:Spring Grand Wine Tasting 2019
DESCRIPTION:The first of our three largest wine-related events: 2019 Spring Grand Wine Tasting\nSpring is in full force\, rain and all\, and summer vacation is around the corner. With so many new wines flooding in for the beginning of the vacation season\, the task of finding a new summer favorite can be daunting. Which is why so many of us go back to familiar favorites. Trying to pick a wine based on descriptors\, write-ups\, and reviews can be overwhelming because who has ever tried limestone? Let us take the guesswork out of wine buying. \nThis Saturday\, from 2-5 PM\, we will be hosting our first of three grand tastings. The Spring Grand Tasting focuses on wines that are light\, fun and made to quench your thirst on those hot summer days. Light reds\, whites\, and rosés (and a sparkler or two) will be on full display this afternoon for your sampling pleasure. With at least 50 bottles to pick from\, there will be a wine for everyone. \nFrom the exotic hills of Provence to the valleys of Marlborough (NZ) and onto the cool terrains of Austria.\nThere will be wines from across the globe that range from light and slightly effervescent to citrus\, tangy\, and mouthwatering. The goal is to not only display the multitude of wines we have to offer but also educate your palate on what is out there. Wine should not be a hard-boiled-egg (as tasty as that may be)\, it should fun and bring back happy memories. Even if that memory is as simple as having come across a particular wine at a local event. This tasting is to help you explore the wonderful world of wine. \nThe Lineup:\n \n\n\n\n\n\n\nGary Parsons\nDomaine Blondeau Sancerre Rose\n\n\n\nBouchard Bourgogne Rouge Pinot Noir\n\n\n\nMarco Felluga “Mongris” Pinot Grigio\n\n\n\nAia Vecchia “Langone” Rosso Toscana\n\n\n\nChateau Routas Rosé Coteaux Varois en Provence\n\n\n\nChateau Gassier “Espirit” Rose\n\n\n\nAia Vecchia Vermentino Toscana\n\n\n\n\n\n\nMichael Seidel\nStarmont Chardonnay Carneros\n\n\n\nNotios by Gai’a White Peloponnisos\n\n\n\nNotios by Gai’a Red Peloponnisos\n\n\n\nFritz Muller Perlwein Muller-Thurgau Rheinhessen\n\n\n\nMas Ste Berthe Rosé Les Baux-de-Provence\n\n\n\nJames Bryant Hill Estate Pinot Noir Central Coast\n\n\n\n\n\n\nMark Colantonio\nSonoma Cutrer Rosé of Pinot Noir RRV\n\n\n\nClos Pegase Mitsuko Vyd Sauv Blanc Carneros\n\n\n\nCarlos Serres Rioja Reserva\n\n\n\nDonnafugata Anthilia Bianco Sicilia\n\n\n\nMaison Saleya Rosé Coteaux d’Aix en Provence\n\n\n\n\n\n\nDave Bender\nBenjamin Leroux Auxey-Duresses\n\n\n\nChampagne Moutard Grande Cuvée Brut NV\n\n\n\nGerard Boulay ‘Sybylle’ Sancerre Rosé\n\n\n\nStafford Hill Pinot Noir Willamette Vly\n\n\n\nMessanges Rouge by Pallus Chinon\n\n\n\nLa Val Albariño Rias Baixas\n\n\n\n\n\n\nTim Laskey\nCasale del Giglio Chardonnay Lazio\n\n\n\nStoneburn Pinot Noir Marlborough\n\n\n\nWithout Papers White Blend\n\n\n\nSansilvestro ‘Primaio’ Dolcetto d’Alba\n\n\n\nPellehaut Blanc Harmonie de Gascogne\n\n\n\nPellehaut Rosé Harmonie de Gascogne\n\n\n\n\n\n\nBarbara Cloonan\nSeaSun Chardonnay California\n\n\n\nWither HIlls Pinot Noir Marlborough\n\n\n\nBatasiolo Moscato d’Asti\n\n\n\nElk Cove Estate Pinot Noir Rosé Willamette Vly\n\n\n\nCarmen Gran Reserva Carmenere Apalta\n\n\n\nFantini Cerasuolo d’Abruzzo\n\n\n\nMAN Free-run Chenin Blanc Coastal Region\n\n\n\n\n\n\nTony Branco\nAndresen 10yr White Porto\n\n\n\nDuquesa de la Victoria Rioja Crianza\n\n\n\nTombacco Biferno Rosso Riserva\n\n\n\n47 Anno Domini Prosecco\n\n\n\nMonte Velho by Esporao Tinto Alentejo\n\n\n\nCabriz Rosé Dão\n\n\n\n\n\n\nGary Routenberg\nCh du Seuil Graves Rouge\n\n\n\nCh Patache d’Aux Cru Bourgeois Medoc Rouge\n\n\n\nDampt Freres Chevalier d’Eon Bourgogne Tonnerre\n\n\n\nFont Sarade Plan de Dieu Cuvée Egoiste\n\n\n\nJ. SUMMARY:Daou Winery Tasting & Seminar
DESCRIPTION:Daou Winery & Vineyards went from being a new winery to the IT winery. How? By producing world-class wines that go neck-and-neck with the greats.\nThe Daou Winery is the modern day American Dream story. Two Lebanese brothers move to the United States in hopes of creating a better life for themselves and their families. They succeed and decided that returning to their roots by opening a winery was the next step in their journey. Fast-forward a few years and what you have is a standout winery in the heart of Paso Robles surrounded by what is considered to be one of the best vineyard sites in all of California–André Tchelistcheff words\, not ours. \nHowever\, us talking about it doesn’t do the Daou’s story or legacy any justice. Which is why we will be hosting David Muir the ‘Soul of the Lion’ Brand Ambassador from Daou the evening of Thursday\, April 11 at Quail Ridge Country Club. This will be an opportunity to experience\, with the help of an insider\, what Daou is about. \nThe lineup: \n\n2017 Chardonnay Paso Robles\n2017 Cabernet Sauvignon Paso Robles\n2017 The Pessimist Red Blend Paso Robles\n2016 Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve Paso Robles\n2016 Soul of the Lion Red Blend Paso Robles\n\nTo RSVP email Nic at nicolay@colonialspirits.com. There are a limited number of seats so don’t hesitate. The cover for this event is $10 per person.

DESCRIPTION:Argentina’s wine market is changing and it is happening quickly.\nWith a newfound interest in the sub-regions of Mendoza and varietal experimentation\, anyone could easily get overwhelmed. Trivento is a leading winery in Argentina that is helping to spearhead the high-quality wine movement. With so many different sub-regions\, Argentina is much more than just Mendoza. Agostina\, the National Brand Manager\, will be stopping by to teach us about Trivento and their place in the new Argentinian wine landscape. With fervor for the region and its wines\, Trivento has undoubtedly championed themselves by creating wines that not only represent the Argentina of the past but also one of the future. \nThis is a seminar-style event with limited seating. If you would like to reserve a seat please email Nic at nicolay@colonialspirits.com \nCheers!

SUMMARY:E&J Gallo Wines Tasting: La Marca and Louis Martini
DESCRIPTION:Stories have it that what was once a modest winery became a global empire known as E&J Gallo Wines.\nErnest and Julio Gallo lived long enough to see what their company E&J Gallo Wines has become. From selling cases of their eponymously named wines to some of the most recognizable names in the wine industry. It’s difficult to say that their wines aren’t for you because their reach is extensive. From Australia to New Zealand to Italy and back to the states the wines are only bound by the imagination. Looking for something light and exciting? They have it. How about a rich red with layers of flavor? Better yet\, a highly acclaimed Italian winery? Three of them if not more. \nE&J Gallo wanted to be more than just another large wine company\, they wanted to be standard bearers. Having wine wasn’t enough\, they wanted the best wines. Sure\, Livingston may not have been featured at your last wine dinner. But the 2013 Louis Martini Lot 1 might one day. However\, none of this matters if you don’t like the wine which is why we will be sampling a couple. \nLa Marca a.k.a the ‘Tiffany Blue’ Prosecco is making waves in the Prosecco market. Its catchy label and easy-drinking bubbles make it an easy choice to make. \nLouis Martini might as well be synonymous with Cabernet Sauvignon. One of the oldest Cabernet Sauvignon-focused winery in California that doesn’t seem to be slowing down. \nCheers! \nLooking for a great Cabernet Sauvignon that is sure to please?\nLouis Martini Cabernet Sauvignon Sonoma County

SUMMARY:Boston Winery: Wines from the City
DESCRIPTION:Who knew Boston was a hotbed for winemaking? Someone did and they called at Boston Winery.\nLet’s be honest; there aren’t any grapes being grown in Boston\, at least not like California. But the wines are being made in Boston. Californian grapes are shipped to Boston\, then they are crushed\, aged\, and bottled right here in our home state. Making wine is not that difficult\, it’s making drinkable wine that is. We have seen many “crush” wines (no vineyards or facility) in our day but few have demonstrated their capacity like the group at Boston Winery. \nFrom their own brands like ‘Without Papers’ and ‘Bread & Roses’ to the Black Dog label for none other\, the wines compete with the best. Their wines exemplify the varietals and styles appropriately and at a price point\, we can all appreciate. \nBut don’t take our word. Try it for yourself. \nCheck out the Boston Winery website for more info \nClick here to check out another tasting for a local establishment: 1634 Meadery

DESCRIPTION:Nothing beats a tasting with someone that knows what they are talking about. That’s why we are hosting a wine tasting with John Grange.\nJohn Grange and his team are just those people. Wine tasting is unique because each bottle of wine has a story to tell. Which inevitably makes the person behind the table a storyteller. Wine isn’t sold based on your decibel level\, it is sold by the history each glass unravels. The story behind the wine isn’t just a story it’s its DNA. Which is why having a wine tasting with John Grange and his team is so vital. They make it an experience and not just another interaction. \nWhich is why we are happy to have John and his team back. \nAs a wine broker John represents different wines for different importers. Himself along with his team then learn the history of the wineries and subsequently its wines and help promote them. \nIf you like wine tastings here is a list of a few more you might be interested in: Click Here\nLineup:\nLes Darons Rouge Languedoc\n3 Brooms by Barker’s Marque Sauvignon Blanc Marlborough\nCuvaison Chardonnay Carneros\nCuvaison Pinot Noir Carneros\nLilac wine by Jeff Carrel Cotes du Roussillon Villages

SUMMARY:Turtle Creek Winery Wine Tasting
DESCRIPTION:Turtle Creek Winery out of Lincoln\, MA is a winery few people have heard about.\nHowever\, the people that do know about Turtle Creek Winery know the quality of the wines that are in the bottle. \nJust outside of Boston in the small town of Lincoln\, you can find what most would consider an odd site and that would happen to be vineyards. When we think of vineyards and wines it is hard not to imagine the picture-perfect estates that are sprawled throughout places like Bordeaux\, Chianti\, or Napa Valley. These regions represent some of the most recognizable labels and coveted wines. Turtle Creek\, nonetheless\, is not one of those estates. It is\, in fact\, a garagiste winery. A distinction shared with places like Tua Rita\, Screaming Eagle\, and Le Pin. \nBecause of its youth\, Turtle Creek still has a ways to go in order to captivate the world audience the way its peers have. But don’t be discouraged because Turtle Creek is well on its way.

SUMMARY:La Marca Luminore Prosecco Tasting
DESCRIPTION:Because La Marca wasn’t good enough!? They went ahead and made Luminore.\nLuminore is to La Marca what La Grand Dame is to Veuve Clicquot. Alright\, maybe it is not quite the same as Veuve Clicquot has a multitude of other expressions in between the two\, but you get the idea. Luminore is an expression of La Marca that goes beyond the easy-drinking and soft flavors that we have all come to enjoy. It is a DOCG (Denominazione di Origine Controllata e Garantita) Prosecco which means more. From the vineyard site to the vineyard and from the grapes to the bottle. Things have to be done a certain way to obtain the stamp of approval for the highest quality. Think of it as a mixing Prosecco and a sipping one. \nBut wasn’t the Tiffany Blue cladded label already a sipping style? Yes and No. \nOne could indeed enjoy La Marca on its own\, but it still found itself a victim to mixologists everywhere. The Luminore will not. \nIt is more elevated and displays nuances that don’t need to be tampered with.\nAt least that is what we think\, but you can decide for yourself. All you have to do is stop by. \nTo learn more about Prosecco Click Here\nClick Here to purchase La Marca Prosecco\nClick Here to purchase Luminore Prosecco

SUMMARY:Charles River Wine Co Wine Tasting
DESCRIPTION:Charles River Wine Co is one of the distributors you never have heard of but should.\nWith a dedication to finding the unique and craft wines\, Charles River Wine Co has created their own niche in the MA wine market. Their wines truly encapture the idea of terroir and represent a family and not a company. The wines have stories and each one is more interesting than the last. \nBut hearing the story from us is not as fun as hearing it from someone at Charles River Wine Co\, which is why Kate will be stopping by to sample some of their latest finds. These wines are fun and worth taking a look at. \nSee you there. Cheers!

SUMMARY:Try Something New Wine Tasting Series
DESCRIPTION:From Ancient Lakes to Mudgee: Try Something New Wine Tasting Series. Because wine is fun.\nWine is fun; what a concept. And what better way to enjoy and see the beauty of wine than with a wine tasting? Sampling wines is a staple for most wine shops. They allow buyers to decide if a particular bottle is a fit for the store. Or they give you\, the customer\, the opportunity to try it before buying it. Not every wine is for everyone and finding the right one can sometimes be difficult. \nWine Enthusiasts have been alienated by the wine industry. Partly because of the sheer number of wines there are\, and partly because describing wines can be overwhelming. \n“Flower petals atop oak shavings with blackberry undertones.” Did you not get the same notes? \nAlthough the industry tries desperately to make wine easy\, at times it feels like they are making things harder. We know that describing wines is not everyone’s forté\, and that wine is personal\, which is why we are bringing them to you. \nWine should be something we are all comfortable with. Like bread\, fruits\, and the other foods we eat.\nWine is a consumable which is why enjoying it is more important than describing it. And why trying it is the best way of knowing. Which is why for 2018 we will be introducing the Try Something New wine tasting series. The idea is to bring to the table wines that are new and unique. We are going to bring FUN back to wine by reminding everyone that wine is first meant to be a learning experience. Like trying a new dish at home or the restaurant. Wines offer individual experiences to each person and with each glass. \nThe Try Something New wine tastings are meant to compel\, excite\, and make enjoying wine easier. So stop by and see what we will have in store for you. \nClick Here for other opportunities to learn\n

SUMMARY:Grand Wine Tastings: Winter 2018
DESCRIPTION:Finally in writing are our Grand Wine Tastings for 2018.\nOur seasonal Grand Wine Tastings are events that look at what we have done and have to offer. These tastings represent the wine department because the encompass the breadth of the department. Unlike the Try Something New tastings that will be taking place\, the GWT allow you to try old favorites alongside newcomers. And in a dynamic business like ours\, taking time to try wines is important. With so many to choose from\, it is nice to sample them. \nStill into oaky Chardonnay? We will have them. Never tried a Muscadet? They will be there. Want to sample an extravagant Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon? You can bet a bottle or two will be available to try. \nBut why stop there!\nWith an opportunity to try 50 or more bottles of wine\, there will be plenty to go around and choose from. The Grand Wine Tastings are our most visited events and anticipated events for a reason. We aren’t looking to push an agenda or force-feed you the latest find. No! We want our customers to sample through what we have to offer and find their favorite. Maybe you are tired of your go-to and are looking for the new table topper. This is the event for you. Maybe you want to see if there are other wines that feel familiar but offer up a unique twist. This is the event for that. \nThere are so many different wines out there. Why limit yourself. \nSo…If you are looking for a change and on a hunt\, stop by and see what will be available. \nAs always\, this event is free to the public. Bring family and friends and enjoy an afternoon of times with good wines. \nIn conjunction with the Grand Wine Tastings\, we will also be hosting our Try Something New wine tastings. To see those dates CLICK HERE. \n

SUMMARY:Thanksgiving Dinner and Wine Pairing with Sue
DESCRIPTION:The most anticipated get together of the year is Thanksgiving Dinner.\nAt least it is in our household. Family\, friends\, and good food set the mood for the day and nothing is better. That being said\, Thanksgiving dinner can be a burden to the hosting family. Long days of prep\, an early start the day off\, and clean up like you wouldn’t believe.  Sometimes motivation is the issue as the stress of Thanksgiving can mount up quickly. \nThat is why we are inviting you to our Annual Thanksgiving Dinner with Sue. Sue brings out all of the stops and there is nothing better than enjoying someone else’s hard work. However\, Sue does more than bring the turkey\, sweet potatoes\, and cranberry sauce. She also brings a handful of wines that pair well with Thanksgiving Dinner as it is the most common question this time of year. \nMore importantly\, Sue will have more than just Pinot Noir and Riesling.\nEven though Pinot and Riesling are some of the best wines for pairing with Thanksgiving Dinner\, there are other wines that work just as well. Sue may still have a Pinot Noir or Riesling to sample as it’s almost obligatory\, but she will also have a few other great choices that will help make Thanksgiving a little bit easier. \nWhether this is your first\, second\, or third visit I’m sure you will try something you haven’t seen paired with turkey before. \nHope to see you there.

SUMMARY:Quinta do Noval Wine Tasting with Deirdre
DESCRIPTION:Who could say no to a Quinta do Noval wine tasting?\nMaybe a few of you could but that is only because you don’t know Quinta do Noval. One of the most famous of Port houses\, Quinta do Noval is and has been royalty in Porto. Not only famous for making world-class wine but also famous for having one of the few pre-phylloxera vineyards in Europe\, Nacional. Although we won’t be privileged to taste the Vintage Nacional as only 90 bottles made it to the US\, we will be tasting their other Ports. Which brings us back to the original question; who could say no to a Noval wine tasting? \nPort has long been misunderstood as it is so closely tied with dessert wine. Understandable considering it is rather sweet. But what if I told you that it isn’t just for dessert. That it is also for cocktails and can be used as an aperitif. It can. The reputation that Port is only a “dessert” wine is now a thing of the past. Mixologists\, wine drinkers and cocktail lovers are embracing Port’s new found glory and so will you. With Deirdre at the helm of this tasting\, we are going to be shown how Port is more than a dessert wine. \nLooks like things have changed just a bit. Although we will still be sampling Noval\, a few more items were just added to the lineup: \nBollinger Champagne Special Cuvee Brut NV\nDomaine Talmard Macon-Chardonnay\nChateau Lyonnat Lussac-St-Emilion

SUMMARY:Testa Wines South American Tasting with Wendy
DESCRIPTION:Testa Wines: Bringing the highest caliber wines to your dinner table.\nTesta Wines may be less known than Diageo and Moet Hennessey\, but their impact in the wine industry resonates to this day. Having once been the importer for little brands like Veuve Clicquot\, Antinori\, and Mouton Cadet\, it is easy to see why we are excited about working with them. \nMost recently\, Testa has found their way to South America where they have discovered some gems.\nThe first is La Mision\, a project started by Domaine William Fevre. Due to the rising demand in Burgundy and lack of land\, William Fevre has decided to venture into other regions. It may not have been their 1st choice\, but Chile was where they decided to plant their vines. Using clippings from their vineyards in Burgundy\, William Fevre planted vineyards where they deemed most appropriate and started La Mision. The wines are precise\, to say the least. The white wines are reminiscent of wines from Burgundy with minerality\, acidity\, and balanced fruit flavors. The red wines resemble wines from Provence with laid-back fruit flavors and fresh acidity on the finish. \nThe second is Proemio; Argentinian wines with an Italian heritage. Like most Italians immigrants Marcelo Bocardo came from a family that emphasized eating well. Not only did this apply to food but it also applied to wine. However\, eating steak every day isn’t common so why the necessity for over-extracted wines? Marcelo went out to create wines that would pair well with common household dinners. Hence Proemio. The wines emphasize the quality of the grapes and the regions they were grown in and heighten foods versus overpowering them. \nWendy\, the local rep for Testa\, will be here to engage your palate and open your mind to these newcomers. She will be pouring the wines and educating us on why these wines are the new frontier for Soth America. \nWines being sampled:\n\nLa Mision Reserva Especial Chardonnay\nLa Mision Reserva Especial Pinot Noir\nLa Mision Reserva Especial Carmenere\nProemio Cabernet Sauvignon\nProemio Reserva Malbec\nProemio ICON

SUMMARY:Wine Tasting with John Grange Wine Broker

SUMMARY:Apothic Wines Tasting: The Mystery Unfolds
DESCRIPTION:What is it about Apothic Wines that keeps us coming back for more?\nApothic Wines is relatively new when it comes to wineries. That being said\, their meteoric rise to stardom is the opposite of slow and steady. \nIt’s now 2018 and Apothic Wines can be found in red\, white\, and rosé variations. The red blend which is their primary offering is now available in Crush\, a light red with soft fruit flavors\, and Dark\, a richer red with jammed berries and baking spices. Also available are the Seasonal Offerings which are only available while supplies last. In this category\, there is the Inferno\, a whiskey barrel aged red that has intense spiciness\, and Brew which adds cold brew coffee into the blend. \nTheir innovation and continuous search or excellence are what drives this brand and its wines.\nHowever\, not everyone has heard of or tried these wines and they are looking to change that. Join us for what is sure to be a fun-filled afternoon with good wines and company.

SUMMARY:Boston Winery: Wines from the City
DESCRIPTION:Who knew Boston was a hotbed for winemaking? Someone did and they called it Boston Winery.\nLet us be honest; there aren’t any grapes being grown in Boston\, at least not like California. Their wines exemplify the varietals and styles appropriately and at a price\, we can all appreciate. \nBut don’t take our word. Try it for yourself. \n  \nLooking to find out what other tastings we might be offering? Click here.
