SUMMARY:Annual Big Red Wine Tasting: It's that Time of Year
DESCRIPTION:It’s that time of year. Get ready for our Annual Big Red Wine Tasting.\nCan you believe that it has already been a full year since the last Big Red Wine Tasting? I know I can’t. This has always been our most attended event year after year\, and I don’t see with year will be any different. For those that don’t know what I’m talking about\, this is our red wine only tasting(s). What do I mean by tasting(s)? Because it has gotten so big\, and we are limited on space\, we have had to split the one tasting into two that take place over the course of two consecutive Saturdays. This allows us to fit both vendors and customers into our humble abode. \nHow big is the event?\nBig! Each weekend consists of anywhere from 8-12 tables with around 6 wines per table. Can’t do the math? That’s upwards of 144 bottles over the two weekends. If that wasn’t enough\, we will be offering finger food as well. Whoever said bigger is better\, at least in this case\, was right. We have found that having this many wines open brings in the crowds so expect to make some new friends. \nCall the babysitter\, get a ride\, and come join us for an afternoon of great wines and company.\nAs always this event is free of charge. \nThis Week’s Lineup:\n \n\n\n\n\n\nWine\n\n\nAllegrini Amarone della Valpolicella Classico\n\n\nPoggio al Tesoro Sondraia Rosso Bolgheri Superiore\n\n\nRenato Ratti Marcenasco Barolo\n\n\nAllegrini La Grola Rosso Veronese\n\n\nArgiano Non Confunditor Rosso Toscano\n\n\nRenato Ratti Nebbiolo Langhe\n\n\n\n\n\nLot 150 Cabernet Sauvignon Spring Mountain\n\n\nLot 94 Cabernet Sauvignon Rutherford\n\n\nLot 75 Pinot Noir Russin River Valley\n\n\nLot 113 Big Red Blend Lodi\n\n\nLot 143 Cotes du Rhone\n\n\n\n\n\nChateau Greysac Medoc Cru Bourgeois\n\n\nM. SUMMARY:Masciarelli Wine Tasting w/ Mr. John Avery
DESCRIPTION:I don’t think I can say anymore about Masciarelli and John Avery that I already haven’t said. Masciarelli is one of Mass’ smaller distributors that was founded on Italian wines. Since then\, they have grown and expanded not only their territory but also their portfolio. The now import and distribute wines from all over the world\, some of which you may have heard of: Schug\, Trentadue\, to some you may not have. Either way\, the wines have always stood out and a little extra love never hurt. \nSo join us for a sampling of a few of the Masciarelli offerings. \nCheers!

SUMMARY:Thanksgiving Dinner and Wine Pairing with Sue
DESCRIPTION:The most anticipated get together of the year is Thanksgiving Dinner.\nAt least it is in our household. Family\, friends\, and good food set the mood for the day and nothing is better. That being said\, Thanksgiving dinner can be a burden to the hosting family. Long days of prep\, early start the day of and clean up like you wouldn’t believe.  Sometimes motivation is the issue as the stress of Thanksgiving can mount up quickly. \nThat is why we are inviting you to our Annual Thanksgiving Dinner with Sue. Sue brings out all of the stops and there is nothing better than enjoying someone else’s hard work. However\, Sue does more than bring the turkey\, sweet potatoes\, and cranberry sauce. She also brings a handful wines that pair well with Thanksgiving Dinner as it is the most common question this time of year. \nMore importantly\, Sue will have more than just Pinot Noir and Riesling.\nEven though Pinot and Riesling are some of the best wines for pairing with Thanksgiving Dinner\, there are much more wines that work as well. Chianti\, Beaujolais\, and Rioja all work as well and usually don’t get as much attention as the other two varieties. \nWhether this is your first\, second\, or third visit I’m sure you will try something you haven’t seen paired with turkey before. \nHope to see you there. \nThe lineup: \nPaul Anheuser Scheurebe Nahe\nBeaucastel ‘Coudoulet’ Cotes du Rhone\nBucci Verdicchio dei Castelli di Jesi\nEinaudi Dolcetto Dogliano\nBöen Pinot Noir Russian River\nSmoke Tree Pinot Noir Sonoma County\nLaribotte Sauternes\nMAN Chenin Blanc Western Cape

SUMMARY:Baystate Wine Tasting w/ Jake
DESCRIPTION:Come one\, come all. Baystate Wines is a distributor that is going to put up a fight.\nIn a well-established wine state\, it can be difficult being one of the smaller and newer guys on the block. That hasn’t deterred Baystate\, as they have found their stride by bringing us brands we can’t live without. Sean Minor\, Plungerhead\, and Line 39 are three of their top-sellers of a list of many recognizable brands. \nTo get better acquainted with their brands\, Jake carved out some time to stop by and sample some of Baystate’s offerings. Whether it is Line 39 or a newer brand like Dürnberg\, you will find something you like.

SUMMARY:Wither Hills & Sophora Wine Tasting w/ Liz
DESCRIPTION:We welcome back our favorite Kiwi\, Liz\, who will be representing Wither Hills and Sophora wines.\nIn a not too distant past\, New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc was anything but known. Now we can’t seem to get enough of it. Some wineries rely on their legacy for continued growth\, while others put it all on the table. Wither Hill is the latter. Once a source for some of the wineries of today\, Wither Hills has decided that producing their own wines was going to be the plan going forward. The Sauvignon Blanc is crisp and palate enticing. The Pinot Noir is lush with lean fruit notes and a nice backbone of smoke. \nSophora is a sparkling wine producer based out of New Zealand. New Zealand’s wide range of regions and cooler climate makes it the perfect country for sparkling wines. These wines have life and resonate with the vibrancy that New Zealand wines are known for. With hints of quince\, orange rind\, and lemongrass these sparklers offer just as much as nuances and flavors as the rest. \nBoth Wither Hills and Sophora produce great wines\, but nothing beats finding out for yourself.

SUMMARY:Ideal Wine Distributors with Charles
DESCRIPTION:Ideal Wines is becoming a staple distributor in MA and there is a good reason why.\nTheir wines are good. Known for the Old World Wines (wines from Europe)\, Ideal has become synonymous with fun and unique wines. Whether you are looking for a well-recognized label like Underwood or something interesting like the grape St. Laurent\, Ideal has it. Within the wine circle\, wine enthusiasts know to look for Ideal’s name on the back of the label because it is a sure sign of quality. \nHowever\, you don’t have to believe me. Come and try their wines for yourself. \nCheers!

SUMMARY:Moet and Veuve: Icons of Champagne
DESCRIPTION:Want to try some Champagne? To be precise\, the most iconic Champagnes? Then this is the event for you!\nMoet & Chandon and Veuve Clicquot take up the number 1 and 2 spots in the most sold Champagnes. This shouldn’t be a surprise. With loads of upfront flavors like apples\, nuts\, and peaches. Plenty of mid-palate bready notes and a hinting-at-sweet finish these sparklers embody precision. Not only are the wines rather tasty\, the packaging on them are sharp as well. You could spot either brand from aisles away with their iconic golden orange and pearl white. \nIf nothing else\, this is an opportunity to try Champagne; the drink of the nobles. \nSee you there.

DESCRIPTION:50th Anniversary Grand Tasting. 50 Years\, The Golden Anniversary. 50 Years of ‘Thank Yous’ in one great event.\nThat’s right\, we have been in business for 50 years and we are still going strong. From our first location to 69 Great Rd\, aka the Clock building\, to our current location\, one thing has remained the same\, our service. We take pride in the services we offer and the gusto we do it with. We enjoy what we do\, especially when we can share it with others. Thank you\, all. Without past employees and customers\, and current employees and customers we wouldn’t have made it this far. \nThe 50th Anniversary Grand Tasting is a way to appreciate all the years we have under our belt.\nIn a year of changes\, we thought it would be nice to coordinate a tasting that took place at a venue that offered more room. Past Grand Tastings occurred over two consecutive Saturdays due to space. The lack of space pushed us to look elsewhere\, and so we did. Proximity to the store was a large priority\, as were scenery and accommodations. Quail Ridge has it all. From the space to accommodate 13+ tables to the lush green grass growing on the 1st fairway\, Quail Ridge is the perfect spot. So we booked the venue\, set the date\, and we are now counting down the days to our 50th Anniversary Grand Tasting. \nWhat does this mean for you? A bigger and better representation of what we enjoy doing.\nWine is all about enjoyment\, and presenting great wines is what we enjoy doing. From classic regions like Piedmont to modern regions like Umpqua Valley in Oregon\, a Grand Wine Tasting should have it all. More importantly\, it should have the best. These are the reasons for going to Quail Ridge and for having a tasting unlike any before. 50 years is a long time to be in business\, so what better way to celebrate than with a wine tasting with over 100 bottles of wine. \nMore importantly\, we will have it all. \nSparkling\, red\, white\, rosé\, port wines\, and more. There will be something for everyone. In addition\, we will have plenty of finger food\, water\, and the opportunity to save on your purchase. This will be the event of the season\, and we couldn’t have picked a better venue for it. \nPut it on your calendar now because you won’t want to miss this tasting. \n \n\n\n\n\n\n\nDavid Turcan\nJermann Pinot Grigio Venezia Giulia\n\n\n\nPalazzo della Torre by Allegrini Rosso Veronese\n\n\n\nPieropan Soave Classico\n\n\n\nRenato Ratti ‘Battaglione’ Barbera d’Asti\n\n\n\nRenato Ratti ‘Ochetti’ Nebbiolo d’Alba\n\n\n\nLa Grola by Allegrini Rosso Veronese\n\n\n\nAllegrini Valpolicella Classico\n\n\n\nSolosole by Poggio al Tesoro Vermentinto Toscana\n\n\n\n\n\n\nRob George\nAbbot’s Table by Owen Roe Red Blend Columbia Valley\n\n\n\nMessanges Rouge by Domaine de Pallus Chinon\n\n\n\nSiete by Vinos de Terruños Tinto Rioja\n\n\n\nBohigas Cava Brut Reserva\n\n\n\nJones of Washington Pinot Gris Columbia Valley\n\n\n\nBigaro by Elio Perrone\n\n\n\nValdespino ‘Contrabandista’ Amontillado Medium-Dry\n\n\n\n  \n\n\n\n\n\n\nNic Haegeli\nMicaela by Bodegas Baron Cream Sherry\n\n\n\nLa Sacristie de la Vieille Cure Fronsac\n\n\n\nAntica Fratta Franciacorta Brut\n\n\n\nTamaral Tinto Ribera del Duero Reserva\n\n\n\nDomaine Pierre Janny ‘Challand’ Bourgogne Chardonnay\n\n\n\nBranko Friulano Collio\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n\n\n\nRick Lacasse\nBlack Stallion Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley\n\n\n\nLa Crema Pinot Gris Monterey\n\n\n\nVina Alberdi by La Rioja Alta Rioja Reserva\n\n\n\nTerrasses by Chateau Pesquie Rouge Ventoux\n\n\n\nEroica by Che Ste Michelle & Dr. Loosen Riesling Columbia Valley\n\n\n\nCascinetta by Vietti Moscato d’Asti\n\n\n\nDuval-Leroy Champagne Brut NV\n\n\n\n\n\n\nElena Lucero\nFable by Brack Mountain Pinot Meunier S.V.

SUMMARY:Cuvaison Winery Wine Tasting: The Best of Carneros
DESCRIPTION:In the heart of Carneros lies a little winery focused on Chardonnay and Pinot Noir\, Cuvaison.\nA leader in the Burgundian varietals\, Cuvaison is has found its niche in a region dedicated to Cabernet. Cuvaison strives for simplicity as they believe that is how the best wines are made. If Burgundian winemakers believe this\, why shouldn’t Cuvaison? However\, the best way of understanding is by tasting it for yourself. \nCuvaison’s wines are fresh\, bright\, display varietally correct flavors and mouthfeel. These wines are some of the best Napa has to offer. And wouldn’t you know\, not one Cabernet.

SUMMARY:Masciarelli Wine Tasting with John Avery
DESCRIPTION:The Masciarelli ‘Dynamic Duo’ is what I like to call them\, John and Nic that is.\nA regular fixture at our store\, John has been a long time Sales Rep and Portfolio Manager for Masciarelli. Over the years his experience in the industry has guided his decisions in regards to inventory and pricing and has brought us some great gems like Trentadue and Monte Volpe. You can always count on John to teach you a thing or two about the wines he represents. John may not be a fixture here\, but he is a familiar and welcome face. So stop by and see what he has to offer because it never disappoints.

SUMMARY:Zuccardi Ultra Icon Wines Seminar with Lee
DESCRIPTION:Malbec is much more than Mendoza\, and Zuccardi is here to prove it.\nMendoza and Malbec are almost synonyms\, but that has to change. Out of fear of becoming the next Barossa Valley Shiraz\, Argentinian wineries like Zuccardi are looking elsewhere for inspiration. Malbec may still be king but varieties like Cabernet Sauvignon and Tempranillo also shine in Mendoza. \nZuccardi is a family owned winery located in the Mendoza sub-region. It is here\, at the state-of-the-art winery\, that all of the magic takes place. From experimenting with different varieties like Tempranillo to finding the perfect terroir\, Zuccardi is changing the Argentinian landscape and the way we view its wines. \nZuccardi makes you look past the front label in order to get the whole story.\nZuccardi’s quest for wines of distinction has forced them to expand their portfolio and introduce wines that represent the best of Argentina. Unlike the Santa Julia wines\, the eponymously named wines are estate fruit and have an emphasize on terroir. This is where it becomes fun. \nUnlike the ‘A Series\,’ the ‘Q Series\,’ and the ‘Icons’ the Ultra Icons are the best Zuccardi has to offer. The Ultra Icon are terroir. From vines to bottle\, the Ultra Icons wines see little interference from the winemaker as the belief is the vines and vineyards do most of the work. Handpicked\, gravity pumped\, wild yeast fermentation\, minimum barrel aging\, and unfiltered is the theme. \nZuccardi Estate Vineyards\nLocation\, location\, location… As they say.\nThis saying is as true for wine as it is for the housing market. What separates wines from one another is the location. Like purchasing a house in an up-and-coming neighborhood\, wineries search for the best spot to plant vines. And like houses\, every aspect of the vineyard makes a difference\, a fact not lost in the Ultra Icon wines. The Ultra Icons are the sum of everything in nature coming together in such a way creating wines that border on perfection. Few wineries do this well\, and even fewer do it as well as Zuccardi. \nIn order to better understand what we’re talking about\, Lee from Winesellers\, LTD will be presenting the Ultra Icon wines at our store.\nLee will be presenting at 2 consecutive seminars that will take place on Thursday\, May 18 from 6-6:45 and 7-7:45 PM.  Seating is limited so don’t wait to sign up. We will be charging $10 per seat; all of the proceeds will go to a local charity. If you are interested in reserving a seat at either time slot please email Nic at Nicolay@ColonialSpirits.com with the names of all interested parties and whether they will be attending ‘Seminar 1’ or ‘Seminar 2.’ Thank you. \nThese are the wines we will be presenting:\n\n2013 ‘Finca Los Membrillos’ (La Consulta) Cabernet Sauvignon\n2013 ‘Finca Piedra Infinita’ (Altamira) Malbec\n2012 ‘Finca Canal Uco’ (Altamira) Malbec\n2011 Aluvional- La Consulta Malbec\n2011 Aluvional- Altamira Malbec\n\n

SUMMARY:Terlato Wines International
DESCRIPTION:Terlato Wines International is more than just an importer\, they are a trend setter.\nOnce the proud importer of Santa Margarita\, Terlato Wines has moved past those years and forged a new future. With brands like Two Hands\, Chimney Rock\, and Gaja Terlato has a bright future. As part of their newest initiative\, Jamie\, a Terlato representative\, will be stopping by to sample through some of their newer offerings. The wines are fun\, well crafted\, and a true representation of their regions and styles. If one thing is true about Terlato\, it is that they know how to find the cream of the crop. They rarely miss so this should be a great event. \n-Swirl\, Sniff\, & Sip-

SUMMARY:AVA Grace Wine Tasting: Come See What's New
DESCRIPTION:A newcomer to the block that is making headway\, AVA Grace wines are catching people’s attention.\nThe name is a play on words as it sounds like someone’s name\, but it could also be AVA (American Viticultural Area) Grace\, meaning best areas. The labels are spot-on and bring to mind spring and beauty\, while the wines exemplify the styles. However\, the proof of the pudding is in the eating. Whether you enjoy a nice Californian Chardonnay or an ever fresh Sauvignon Blanc\, AVA Grace has it. So if you are looking for your next table wine or an easy “go to” this may be the tasting you were waiting for.
