DESCRIPTION:Malbec is much more than Mendoza\, and Zuccardi is here to prove it.\nMendoza and Malbec are almost synonyms\, but that has to change. Out of fear of becoming the next Barossa Valley Shiraz\, Argentinian wineries like Zuccardi are looking elsewhere for inspiration. Malbec may still be king but varieties like Cabernet Sauvignon and Tempranillo also shine in Mendoza. \nZuccardi is a family owned winery located in the Mendoza sub-region. It is here\, at the state-of-the-art winery\, that all of the magic takes place. From experimenting with different varieties like Tempranillo to finding the perfect terroir\, Zuccardi is changing the Argentinian landscape and the way we view its wines. \nZuccardi makes you look past the front label in order to get the whole story.\nZuccardi’s quest for wines of distinction has forced them to expand their portfolio and introduce wines that represent the best of Argentina. Unlike the Santa Julia wines\, the eponymously named wines are estate fruit and have an emphasize on terroir. This is where it becomes fun. \nUnlike the ‘A Series\,’ the ‘Q Series\,’ and the ‘Icons’ the Ultra Icons are the best Zuccardi has to offer. The Ultra Icon are terroir. From vines to bottle\, the Ultra Icons wines see little interference from the winemaker as the belief is the vines and vineyards do most of the work. Handpicked\, gravity pumped\, wild yeast fermentation\, minimum barrel aging\, and unfiltered is the theme. \nZuccardi Estate Vineyards\nLocation\, location\, location… As they say.\nThis saying is as true for wine as it is for the housing market. What separates wines from one another is the location. Like purchasing a house in an up-and-coming neighborhood\, wineries search for the best spot to plant vines. And like houses\, every aspect of the vineyard makes a difference\, a fact not lost in the Ultra Icon wines. The Ultra Icons are the sum of everything in nature coming together in such a way creating wines that border on perfection. Few wineries do this well\, and even fewer do it as well as Zuccardi. \nIn order to better understand what we’re talking about\, Lee from Winesellers\, LTD will be presenting the Ultra Icon wines at our store.\nLee will be presenting at 2 consecutive seminars that will take place on Thursday\, May 18 from 6-6:45 and 7-7:45 PM.  Seating is limited so don’t wait to sign up. SUMMARY:One Earth Fundraising at Gallery 529
DESCRIPTION:“Whoever tends a fig tree will eat its fruit.”\nGallery 529 of Littleton\, in conjunction with the Gallery Café\, is pleased to announce a new juried art show and fundraising effort to benefit Loaves and Fishes of Ayer. Based on the proverb\, “He who tends a fig tree shall eat its fruit” the  Gallery Café and Gallery 529 are planning a two week focus on ways we can all work to save our planet\, so it can continue to provide for all of us. \nThe two-week event starts on Saturday\,  January 14th\, from 7 to 9 pm.  Food will be provided by the Gallery Café.\nColonial Spirits of Acton assisted by Sue Nordberg will be hosting a wine tasting promoting organic wines. There will be live music\, crafts to make\, and delicious food\, all to benefit a worthy local cause. \nAccording to Gallery and Café owner Virginia Wood\, “Lately\, I have been feeling like I need to do more to help protect the environment. This event is the beginning of a series of events to focus on critical issues which will culminate with a call to action delineating a series of simple tasks folks can do to help. I just don’t think we can sit back any longer…too much is at stake. The old adage\, ‘Think Globally and Act Locally’ will be our focus of 2017\, and we hope the greater community will join us.” \nThe artists of Gallery 529\, of whom there are 30 member artists\, are also supporting the theme by creating artwork from recycled or up-cycled materials. Nancy Burke\, a glass artist from Marlboro\, makes beautiful cheese boards from recycled melted wine and champagne bottles. Jewelry artist Diane Delgado from Carlisle\, MA.\, will be highlighting her etched copper jewelry made from upcycled copper flashing. Townsend artist Nancy French makes warm boiled wool mittens from up-cycled sweaters. Local artists are also encouraged to get involved in the juried art show\, which will run for the last two weeks of January. There will be no entry fees to encourage more folks to enter and support the good work of Loaves and Fishes. \nThe Gallery Café\, during the two weeks of the event\, will be donating 10% of its food sales to Loaves and Fishes. Gallery 529 will also donate 10% of its sales during the two weeks to Loaves and Fishes.\nColonial Spirits of Acton 87 Great Road www.colonialspirits.com\, will have a box where their customers can make donations of non-perishable food and toiletry items for Loaves and Fishes throughout the month of January. \nTickets purchased will also support the good work of Loaves and Fishes – $20 of every ticket sold will go directly to the organization. \nOn January 21\, or very soon thereafter\, we also hope to host a monthly call to action lecture and discussion\, where folks can get involved to help on local initiatives. Ken is a wine critic that is locally based and has a palate that will compete with the best. His style of wine is balanced and smooth with some extra weight on fruit. His palate has yet to steer him wrong\, and with an award under his belt for best Wine Blog\, I don’t foresee him slowing down anytime soon. They are produced right here in MA. \nTodd Bellomy\, head brewer at Dovetail\, honed his art in Japan and brought here to Massachusetts with one thing in mind\, freshness. Because most of the Sakes available to us are either from Japan\, California or Oregon they aren’t as fresh as they could be. He wanted to change this by producing actual Sake using traditional methods and getting it to restaurants and retailers as fresh as possible. I would keep going on the subject but I wouldn’t do it nearly as much justice as the Boston Magazine did with the article Drink This Now: Nakahama Junmai\, by Dovetail Sake.
