DESCRIPTION:This is the second class of the year\, and I can’t wait to have it. For those that made it to our first class and remember how it was a “work in progress\,” I have found more chairs for us to sit on! It’s the little things in life that make me happy. 😉 I also didn’t forget that I needed to have a list of the wines being tasted so that notes could be taken. \n  \nNow to the serious stuff… \n  \nWe will be covering South American wines this time around\, which is predominantly made up by Chile and Argentina. However\, wines from Peru\, Uruguay\, and Brazil are available in MA\, which I will cover but may not have samples for since they are very limited. SUMMARY:Meet the Winemaker: Peter Spann from Spann Vineyards
DESCRIPTION:Ever heard of Spann Vineyards? Neither had I until recently\, but after having tasted through these excellent wines I’m glad I did. \n  \nSpann Vineyards is a tiny operation in Sonoma County that\, much like Bedrock\, likes to produce off the beaten path wines. The idea behind Spann is to produce unique blends that boast the California fruit while maintaining balance; and I have to say they have done just that. The Spann Vineyards’ wines are excellent across the line\, displaying beautiful fruit characteristic\, supple tannins\, and bright acidity. All the wines had some age to them (the youngest was from the 2010 vintage)\, and not one of the wines exceeds a production of 1000 cases\, so there isn’t a whole lot of this wine available in the market. \n  \nSpann Vineyards’ reach\, as far as wine making is concerned\, is quite large when you consider they produce wines like the “Mo Jo\,” a “Super Tuscan” style blend\, or their “Ying Yang” Chard & Viognier blend that displays both the crispness of the Chard and roundness of the Viognier very well. So needless to say\, these wines are\, at the very least\, intriguing. They are something quite different\, but in a good way. Additionally\, the Spann wines are great values. SUMMARY:William Hill 'Coastal Selection' Wine Tasting
DESCRIPTION:William Hill has been in the business of winemaking for quite sometime\, so much so that his name is synonymous with quality. However\, there was one area of the business the winery was unable to manage\, and that was demand. William Hill was unable to keep up with demand when trying to maintain the quality that www all know them for. So what did they do? They released a new line of wine known as “Coastal Selection.” The William Hill Coastal Selection comes in three varietals: Chard\, Cab Sauv and Mer\, and although the the price is very sharp ($14.99 per bottle)\, the quality is even sharper. These wines boast balance and finesse that very few wines can achieve for under $20. But you don’t have to take my word\, you can try the wines yourself on Saturday\, February 8 from 2-5pm. This is the first of many tastings for this brand\, and based on what I tried\, we can expect it to be around for quite some time.

Michelle has more than set its cornerstone in the wine market in most categories except one\, sparkling. Until now. Ste. Michelle has rebranded their sparkling wins as just “Michelle\,” have cleaned up the label\, and\, most important\, cleaned up the wine. Throughout the lineup the best descriptor word that comes to mind is “balance.” The Michelle sparkling wines are pleasantly refreshing\, displaying great stone fruit notes\, and toasted bread\, with the Rose having the added benefit of having tart berry fruit notes. The “new” Michelle is an eye opening experience\, and a glimpse at what WA state sparkling can be.

DESCRIPTION:Come and join us for an event that is sure to excite and challenge even the most closed minded wine drinker.  Hardwick Winery is your typical MA winery\, producing wines that have added fruit juice in them\, but what isn’t typical is the quality of wine.  These over-deliver and break cynical expectations\, I know because that was exactly the mind frame I had when I first tried these wines.  The Massett Cranberry is the star of the bunch\, drinking like a dry rose with plenty of tartness\, acidity\, and backbone.  The Yankee Boy and Girl are both intriguing in that the underplay the foxiness that is present\, unlike other wineries\, by allowing a bit of ripeness to show through.  I had a wonderful time trying these wines\, and I hope you do to.
