SUMMARY:Zuccardi Ultra Icon Wines Seminar with Lee
DESCRIPTION:Malbec is much more than Mendoza\, and Zuccardi is here to prove it.\nMendoza and Malbec are almost synonyms\, but that has to change. Out of fear of becoming the next Barossa Valley Shiraz\, Argentinian wineries like Zuccardi are looking elsewhere for inspiration. Malbec may still be king but varieties like Cabernet Sauvignon and Tempranillo also shine in Mendoza. \nZuccardi is a family owned winery located in the Mendoza sub-region. It is here\, at the state-of-the-art winery\, that all of the magic takes place. From experimenting with different varieties like Tempranillo to finding the perfect terroir\, Zuccardi is changing the Argentinian landscape and the way we view its wines. \nZuccardi makes you look past the front label in order to get the whole story.\nZuccardi’s quest for wines of distinction has forced them to expand their portfolio and introduce wines that represent the best of Argentina. Unlike the Santa Julia wines\, the eponymously named wines are estate fruit and have an emphasize on terroir. This is where it becomes fun. \nUnlike the ‘A Series\,’ the ‘Q Series\,’ and the ‘Icons’ the Ultra Icons are the best Zuccardi has to offer. The Ultra Icon are terroir. From vines to bottle\, the Ultra Icons wines see little interference from the winemaker as the belief is the vines and vineyards do most of the work. Handpicked\, gravity pumped\, wild yeast fermentation\, minimum barrel aging\, and unfiltered is the theme. \nZuccardi Estate Vineyards\nLocation\, location\, location… As they say.\nThis saying is as true for wine as it is for the housing market. What separates wines from one another is the location. Like purchasing a house in an up-and-coming neighborhood\, wineries search for the best spot to plant vines. And like houses\, every aspect of the vineyard makes a difference\, a fact not lost in the Ultra Icon wines. The Ultra Icons are the sum of everything in nature coming together in such a way creating wines that border on perfection. Few wineries do this well\, and even fewer do it as well as Zuccardi. \nIn order to better understand what we’re talking about\, Lee from Winesellers\, LTD will be presenting the Ultra Icon wines at our store.\nLee will be presenting at 2 consecutive seminars that will take place on Thursday\, May 18 from 6-6:45 and 7-7:45 PM.  Seating is limited so don’t wait to sign up. We will be charging $10 per seat; all of the proceeds will go to a local charity. If you are interested in reserving a seat at either time slot please email Nic at Nicolay@ColonialSpirits.com with the names of all interested parties and whether they will be attending ‘Seminar 1’ or ‘Seminar 2.’ Thank you. \nThese are the wines we will be presenting:\n\n2013 ‘Finca Los Membrillos’ (La Consulta) Cabernet Sauvignon\n2013 ‘Finca Piedra Infinita’ (Altamira) Malbec\n2012 ‘Finca Canal Uco’ (Altamira) Malbec\n2011 Aluvional- La Consulta Malbec\n2011 Aluvional- Altamira Malbec\n\n

As part of their newest initiative\, Jamie\, a Terlato representative\, will be stopping by to sample through some of their newer offerings. SUMMARY:AVA Grace Wine Tasting: Come See What's New
DESCRIPTION:A newcomer to the block that is making headway\, AVA Grace wines are catching people’s attention.\nThe name is a play on words as it sounds like someone’s name\, but it could also be AVA (American Viticultural Area) Grace\, meaning best areas. The labels are spot-on and bring to mind spring and beauty\, while the wines exemplify the styles. However\, the proof of the pudding is in the eating. Whether you enjoy a nice Californian Chardonnay or an ever fresh Sauvignon Blanc\, AVA Grace has it. So if you are looking for your next table wine or an easy “go to” this may be the tasting you were waiting for.

SUMMARY:Montinore Estates Wine Dinner at Great Road Kitchen
DESCRIPTION:That’s right\, Wine Dinner numero 2.\nWe head into spring with one thing in mind\, change. After years of not having wine dinners and focusing on the in-store events\, we are reshifting our focus. The wine dinner that Red Raven hosted was a success. Off the heels of the Red Raven event\, we have reached out to Great Road Kitchen in Littleton to host our second wine dinner. \nA collaboration between Dendor Wine\, Montinore Estate\, Great Road Kitchen\, and Colonial Spirits of Acton and Stow\, this event will mark the beginning of Oregon Month. (What is Oregon Month? We’ll touch upon that later.) \nLike any good wine dinner\, the main focus is pairing.\nToo much or little of an ingredient and the wine will either dominate or become overwhelmed. Appropriateness and finesse are the driving forces behind a good wine dinner and few manage it as well as Great Road Kitchen. With chef Chris Frothingham at the wheel\, we knew we had ourselves a home run of an event\, especially when you see the menu he has in store. Even though the food is important\, it makes up only half of the equation. The other half… the wine. \nRudy Marchesi\, the owner of Montinore Estates\, will be gracing us with his presence and presenting his wines at this event. For those that don’t know the wines from Montinore\, the best way to describe them is elegance. The Montinore Pinot Noir has been a fixture and prominent member of our racks. Described as a nice balance between earth and fruit\, the Pinot Noir has a little bit for everyone. The whites are crisp and unpretentious and exemplify their varietals. All in all\, the Montinore wines live and breathe Oregon. What more could you ask for? \nNow to the good stuff… The Dinner\nChef Frothingham has been kind enough to put together the menu for the evening: \n1st Course: Spicy Tuna Tartar with Montinore ‘Almost Dry’ Riesling 2014 \n2nd Course: Oysters ‘Three Ways’ with Montinore Gewürztraminer 2014 \n3rd Course: ‘Family Style’ Paella with Montinore ‘Borealis’ White 2015 \n4th Course: Wild Mushroom Tortelli with Montinore Pinot Noir ‘Red Cap’ 2015 \n5th Course: Slow Roasted Tenderloin with Montinore Pinot Noir Reserve 2014 \nFinal: Berry Crisp\, Sabayon with Montinore Pinot Gris 2015 \nThe cost per ticket for the evening is $88 (does not include tax or gratuity). What it does cover is 6 courses with 6 different wines and good times. \nIf you would like to reserve a seat either call GRK: 978.952.7333 or email info@GRKOysters.com \n

SUMMARY:Colonial Spirits' Homebrew Competition
DESCRIPTION:Ever wonder what it takes to homebrew?\nThen this is the event for you. Home brewing\, at the heels of craft brewing\, has exploded. More and more basement/garages are turning into brewing stations and more and more homebrewers are becoming bonified brewers. However\, not every homebrewer is looking to expand past the limits of their current walls. But who doesn’t like to think they could make it BIG? Who doesn’t want to see their homebrew make it? This is the event for those dreamers. \nBill has hand selected a few local homebrewers for all to try and cast votes. The idea here is to have fun and offer up your thoughts while learning what it takes to homebrew if you don’t already do it. Some of the contestants have been homebrewing for quite some time\, while others are new to the game. All are willing to put their work on the line to see how it stacks up. \n \nThis event is open to all whether you know your different hop varieties and the flavors they impart or are just getting a grasp on IPAs.\nThis is how it will work. The event will be taking place at our store on Saturday\, April 29 from 1-5 PM. Entries will be placed in one of two categories\, light and dark beers. Tasters will try a few and once they have had their share will cast their vote picking their favorites. Votes will be tallied at the end of the event and the winner will be announced via email\, FB\, and Instagram. One winner per category. \nWe want everyone to stop by and sample through a few of the homebrews as this is a great opportunity to learn about beers. Homebrewers are serious beer enthusiasts that take the time to come up with mash bills and brew templates. They may not all be chemical engineers but their knowledge of what it takes and ‘how to’ is still vast and most are willing to share that knowledge. \nLooking to learn about homebrewing so you don’t come off as a noob? SUMMARY:Masciarelli Wines: Tasting with Nic Haegeli
DESCRIPTION:Nic Haegeli\, a long-time co-worker and good friend\, will be gracing us with his presence and pouring a sampling of wines from Masciarelli Wines.\nSome background info… \nHaving worked at Colonial Spirits of Acton for over 5yrs\, Nic not only knows the store inside and out\, he also knows our customers. With a palate that many would say favors old world wines\, but with the knowledge of a modern wine enthusiast\, Nic’s tastings is not an event you want to miss. \nKnown for their eponymously named Montepulciano d’Abrruzo\, Masciarelli Wines has become a household name. The two combined make a team that…. well… you get the picture. \nDon’t miss this tasting or any other that Nic might be pouring at because you will be denying yourself the opportunity to learn from one of the best. \nSwirl\, Sniff\, & Sip

SUMMARY:Turtle Creek Wine Tasting with Marcia
DESCRIPTION:Located in Lincoln\, MA stands an idea\, a belief that Mass is more than just fruit based wines or wines with fruit juice added.\nThis idea has been a work in progress since 1998\, but it has never been stronger. Founded by Kip Kumler\, Turtle Creek Winery is what we love about California wines produced in Mass. With wines made from California sourced fruits and Massachusetts-grown grapes\, to compare and contrast couldn’t be more appropriate. The wines are true to form with the Chardonnays displaying ripe tropical fruit and the Pinot Noir being lighter with raspberry notes. Fun\, enjoyable\, and\, more importantly\, local\, Turtle Creek wines are the real deal. \nMarcia MacIntyre\, a local rep\, will be sampling the latest lineup of their wines for those looking to #LocalFarms. From their Estate Chardonnay to the California sourced Cabernet Franc\, the Turtle Creek wines excite the palate and make you rethink local wines.

SUMMARY:Palm Bay International Wine Tasting
DESCRIPTION:Who is Palm Bay International?\nNone other than the people that bring you familiar names like Cavit\, Roscato\, and Santa Rita. Those brands\, however\, are just a snippet of their much larger and more interesting portfolio that also includes Au Contraire\, Bertani\, The Irishman\, and Jose Maria da Fonseca. PBI has been a household name in the wine industry for years and one that you take notice of when they add a new product to their portfolio. Their wines have pedigree and regularly find themselves in “Top” lists from different publications. PBI wines are a book onto themselves and are worth learning about. What better time to learn about them than the day before Easter? None. The wines we picked out for your enjoyment would all pair well with your wallet and Easter dinner. \nSo if you are looking for some good wines to try from a well-regarded importer\, your desires have been fulfilled.\nCheers!
