DESCRIPTION:Made in Ipswich\, MA at a small\, craft distillery Privateer is what rum should be.  The silver rum bears no resemblance to the harsh\, phenol flavor of many others.  It is smooth and mixable while showing the true potential of fine rum… Lightly floral with notes of sweet basil\, anise\, cotton candy\, and a hint of butterscotch culminating in a silky finish.\nTheir Amber rum bucks the trend of over-sweet\, spiciness showing rich flavor and complexity similar to fine Bourbon Whiskey.  This rum is exceptionally smooth and round with waves of orange citrus\, sandalwood\, leather\, cinnamon and spice\, and a lingering and silky finish. \nRelatively new to the market is their exceptional gin.  A new western style with bright citrus notes and a fresh aroma\, this gin is wonderfully refreshing.

DESCRIPTION:Many wonder what the ‘Makers 46′ offshoot of world-famous Maker’s Mark Bourbon is all about.  The ’46’ comes from the seared French-oak staves that are added to the barrel during aging (indicating how the oak was charred).  The tried and true Maker’s Mark is aged longer and given the influence of Charred French Oak to bring out sweet\, toasty\, cherried flavors.  If you like a full flavored Bourbon in your cocktails or want to sip something rich but soft this is a fine expression of a time tested spirit.

DESCRIPTION:Despite being relatively new to our shelves and to Massachusetts\, Stony Creek is making an impact.  Their Cranky line up has everything you need.  Little Cranky is the session IPA\, Cranky their IPA\, and Big Cranky is their double IPA.  Besides these staples\, they have beers for those looking for something other than hoppiness.  Recently their Dock Time won a gold medal for Amber beer and I think it is maybe the best amber we have on our shelves.  But I’ll let you all come to your own conclusions at our first Brewery of the Month tasting.  July 9th\, 1-3pm.

DESCRIPTION:Do a Google search on the Loire Valley and\, regardless of the main topic\, you’re likely to find that the most common term used to describe the region is “diversity.” From the river’s source in the central mountainous Massif Centrale\, to its mouth at the Bay of Biscay some 620 miles to the west\, the region is rich in biological\, environmental\, architectural\, agricultural and historical abundance\, making the Loire Valley one of the most popular regional tourist destinations in France.  \nThat being the case\, it should come as no surprise that\, of all of the country’s viticultural regions\, the Loire produces the greatest diversity of white\, red and pink sparkling and still wine styles. Interestingly\, the region’s winemakers\, who represent the Loire’s five major sub-regions and more that 60 AOCs\, manage to do so with a relatively small selection of both white and red grapes; primarily Sauvignon Blanc\, Chenin Blanc\, Melon de Bourgogne\, Pinot Noir and Cabernet Franc. What makes such variation possible is the diversity of the region’s climatic conditions\, soils\, topographies and other natural conditions.  \nTo learn more about what makes Loire Valley wines so diverse\, the Colonial Spirits wine team invites you to try a few representative samples at a free tasting this coming Sunday from 1:00 to 4:00 pm. SUMMARY:ABC Wine Weekend: Sale & Tasting
DESCRIPTION:A tremendously diverse grape\, Chardonnay has the remarkable ability to mirror the conditions in which it is grown. At the same time\, it is malleable enough to bend to choices made by winemakers. Fermented and aged in American Oak\, it delivers aromas of ripe tropical fruit followed by rich full-bodied vanilla and buttery flavors. Grown in cool climates and fermented in concrete or stainless steel vats\, it becomes dry and zesty\, a perfect accompaniment for a wide variety of foods.  \nGiven these and other attributes\, it is small wonder that Chardonnay is the world’s most popular and widely grown white grape. However\, there was a time not that long ago that a number of wine enthusiasts and producer revolted against what was perceived as the oaky\, fruity\, high alcohol sameness of Chardonnay. With the rallying cry of “anything but Chardonnay” (ABC)\, these individuals began to eschew oak and\, in many cases\, leave Chardonnay altogether in search of other\, less ubiquitous grapes such as Sauvignon Blanc\, Viognier\, and Pinot Gris\, among others. Fortunately for everyone\, the more strident elements of the ABC movement began to mellow while many adherents of the oaky Chardonnay style eased up in pursuit of balance.  \nTo celebrate this return to peaceful coexistence\, the Colonial Spirits wine team has organized a combined sale and tasting of domestic ABC wines\, leaving out Chardonnays not out of disrespect\, but rather in recognition of what the wine industry can accomplish when it branches out. That being the case\, we are offering 20% off on all domestic whites\, except Chardonnay\, this coming weekend. We will also conduct a tasting of a number of non-chards Sunday from 1:00 – 4:00 pm.
