SUMMARY:Quinta do Noval Wine Tasting with Deirdre
DESCRIPTION:Who could say no to a Quinta do Noval wine tasting?\nMaybe a few of you could but that is only because you don’t know Quinta do Noval. One of the most famous of Port houses\, Quinta do Noval is and has been royalty in Porto. Not only famous for making world-class wine but also famous for having one of the few pre-phylloxera vineyards in Europe\, Nacional. Although we won’t be privileged to taste the Vintage Nacional as only 90 bottles made it to the US\, we will be tasting their other Ports. Which brings us back to the original question; who could say no to a Noval wine tasting? \nPort has long been misunderstood as it is so closely tied with dessert wine. Understandable considering it is rather sweet. But what if I told you that it isn’t just for dessert. That it is also for cocktails and can be used as an aperitif. It can. The reputation that Port is only a “dessert” wine is now a thing of the past. Mixologists\, wine drinkers and cocktail lovers are embracing Port’s new found glory and so will you. With Deirdre at the helm of this tasting\, we are going to be shown how Port is more than a dessert wine. \nLooks like things have changed just a bit. Although we will still be sampling Noval\, a few more items were just added to the lineup: \nBollinger Champagne Special Cuvee Brut NV\nDomaine Talmard Macon-Chardonnay\nChateau Lyonnat Lussac-St-Emilion

SUMMARY:Boston Winery: Wines from the City
DESCRIPTION:Who knew Boston was a hotbed for winemaking? Someone did and they called at Boston Winery.\nLet’s be honest; there aren’t any grapes being grown in Boston\, at least not like California. But the wines are being made in Boston. Californian grapes are shipped to Boston\, then they are crushed\, aged\, and bottled right here in our home state. Making wine is not that difficult\, it’s making drinkable wine that is. We have seen many “crush” wines (no vineyards or facility) in our day but few have demonstrated their capacity like the group at Boston Winery. \nFrom their own brands like ‘Without Papers’ and ‘Bread & Roses’ to the Black Dog label for none other\, the wines compete with the best. Their wines exemplify the varietals and styles appropriately and at a price point\, we can all appreciate. \nBut don’t take our word. Try it for yourself. \nCheck out the Boston Winery website for more info \nClick here to check out another tasting for a local establishment: 1634 Meadery

SUMMARY:Try Something New Wine Tasting Series
DESCRIPTION:From Ancient Lakes to Mudgee: Try Something New Wine Tasting Series. Because wine is fun.\nWine is fun; what a concept. And what better way to enjoy and see the beauty of wine than with a wine tasting? Sampling wines is a staple for most wine shops. They allow buyers to decide if a particular bottle is a fit for the store. Or they give you\, the customer\, the opportunity to try it before buying it. Not every wine is for everyone and finding the right one can sometimes be difficult. \nWine Enthusiasts have been alienated by the wine industry. Partly because of the sheer number of wines there are\, and partly because describing wines can be overwhelming. \n“Flower petals atop oak shavings with blackberry undertones.” Did you not get the same notes? \nAlthough the industry tries desperately to make wine easy\, at times it feels like they are making things harder. We know that describing wines is not everyone’s forté\, and that wine is personal\, which is why we are bringing them to you. \nWine should be something we are all comfortable with. Like bread\, fruits\, and the other foods we eat.\nWine is a consumable which is why enjoying it is more important than describing it. And why trying it is the best way of knowing. Which is why for 2018 we will be introducing the Try Something New wine tasting series. The idea is to bring to the table wines that are new and unique. We are going to bring FUN back to wine by reminding everyone that wine is first meant to be a learning experience. Like trying a new dish at home or the restaurant. Wines offer individual experiences to each person and with each glass. \nThe Try Something New wine tastings are meant to compel\, excite\, and make enjoying wine easier. So stop by and see what we will have in store for you. \nThe lineup:\nRick Lacasse–\n1) Hugel Gentil Alsace\n2) Erath Pinot Noir Oregon\n3) Klinker Brick OV Zin Lodi\n4) Justin Isosceles Paso Robles\n5) Catena Malbec Mendoza\n6) Oh! SUMMARY:Hillrock Estate Distillery
DESCRIPTION:Hillrock Estate distillery is perhaps best known for having the world’s first Solera aged Bourbon\, but they also offer an exceptional rye and one of the best single malts I have tasted in a long time. \nBeing an Estate distillery means that everything\, from seed to bottle\, is carefully managed by the estate.  The craft and care employed throughout the creation of their whiskies is evident in the bottle.  These are a must try. \nDoug Thorsey will be hosting a free whiskey experience with Hillrock’s awesome lineup at Colonial Spirits.   This is some of the best whiskey going right now so don’t miss a chance to try it.

SUMMARY:Thanksgiving Dinner and Wine Pairing with Sue
DESCRIPTION:The most anticipated get together of the year is Thanksgiving Dinner.\nAt least it is in our household. Family\, friends\, and good food set the mood for the day and nothing is better. That being said\, Thanksgiving dinner can be a burden to the hosting family. Long days of prep\, an early start the day off\, and clean up like you wouldn’t believe.  Sometimes motivation is the issue as the stress of Thanksgiving can mount up quickly. \nThat is why we are inviting you to our Annual Thanksgiving Dinner with Sue. Sue brings out all of the stops and there is nothing better than enjoying someone else’s hard work. However\, Sue does more than bring the turkey\, sweet potatoes\, and cranberry sauce. She also brings a handful of wines that pair well with Thanksgiving Dinner as it is the most common question this time of year. \nMore importantly\, Sue will have more than just Pinot Noir and Riesling.\nEven though Pinot and Riesling are some of the best wines for pairing with Thanksgiving Dinner\, there are other wines that work just as well. Sue may still have a Pinot Noir or Riesling to sample as it’s almost obligatory\, but she will also have a few other great choices that will help make Thanksgiving a little bit easier. \nWhether this is your first\, second\, or third visit I’m sure you will try something you haven’t seen paired with turkey before. \nHope to see you there.

SUMMARY:Cleveland Underground Bourbon
DESCRIPTION:Cleveland Whiskey has developed a truly innovative technology to create a line of revolutionary new flavor profiles that push the boundaries of traditional bourbon. For generations\, oak has been used to age spirits simply because it has the right pore structure to hold liquid. It’s hard\, if not impossible\, to make a barrel out of black cherry\, sugar maple\, or apple wood that doesn’t leak like a sieve and yet there are so many untapped flavors that can come from these woods. Cleveland Whiskey’s proprietary technology captures those flavors\, letting creativity and innovation shine. \nLearn more at our free tasting.  After all\, the easiest way to learn is to try it for yourself! SUMMARY:Grand Wine Tastings: Winter 2018
DESCRIPTION:Finally in writing are our Grand Wine Tastings for 2018.\nOur seasonal Grand Wine Tastings are events that look at what we have done and have to offer. These tastings represent the wine department because the encompass the breadth of the department. Unlike the Try Something New tastings that will be taking place\, the GWT allow you to try old favorites alongside newcomers. And in a dynamic business like ours\, taking time to try wines is important. With so many to choose from\, it is nice to sample them. \nStill into oaky Chardonnay? We will have them. Never tried a Muscadet? They will be there. Want to sample an extravagant Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon? You can bet a bottle or two will be available to try. \nBut why stop there!\nWith an opportunity to try 50 or more bottles of wine\, there will be plenty to go around and choose from. The Grand Wine Tastings are our most visited events and anticipated events for a reason. We aren’t looking to push an agenda or force-feed you the latest find. No! We want our customers to sample through what we have to offer and find their favorite. Maybe you are tired of your go-to and are looking for the new table topper. This is the event for you. Maybe you want to see if there are other wines that feel familiar but offer up a unique twist. This is the event for that. \nThere are so many different wines out there. Why limit yourself. \nSo…If you are looking for a change and on a hunt\, stop by and see what will be available. \nAs always\, this event is free to the public. Bring family and friends and enjoy an afternoon of times with good wines. \nIn conjunction with the Grand Wine Tastings\, we will also be hosting our Try Something New wine tastings. To see those dates CLICK HERE. \n

SUMMARY:Have you heard of Fig Vodka?
DESCRIPTION:Craft distilling is is why these vodkas are worth getting excited about.  Michael Davidson created the now famous Black Fig Vodka in the midst of a proliferation of flavored vodkas.  His process – avoiding syrup and flavor additives – has demonstrated true craftsmanship and earned his product its fame while others faded away. \nNow this local producer is bringing out the first Apricot Vodka in the market and has\, once again\, proved exceptional quality. \nThe flavor choices may seem unusual but there is a reason and\, once you’ve tried them\, you will be easily convinced that these are a great choice. \nMichael will be presenting his incredible vodkas and cocktails from 4-7pm.

SUMMARY:Glendalough Distillery
DESCRIPTION:I am very pleased\, and fortunate\, to have Donal O’Gallachoir hosting our favorite Irish Whiskey experience.  Donal is one of the principals at the Glendalough craft distillery in Ireland.  At one time there were many craft distilleries in Ireland however\, consolidation and large corporate ownership have shaped distilling in Ireland for a long time.  Glendalough is a true craft distillery and one of our favorites. \nGlendalough’s whiskeys bring quality and breadth to what was a ubiquitous category.  If you thought you knew Irish whiskey\, think again.  I was thrilled to learn about the history of distilling in Ireland and to taste spirits that are well outside my expectations.  I hope you will be too. \nThe spectacular countryside where the distillery is located is also home to some fine foraging.  Foraging near a distillery almost always leads to gin.  And a fine gin indeed… The terroir of the Wicklow Countryside is ’embottled’ using fresh foragings and a traditional (for whiskey) cooper pot still. \nJoin us for an Irish whiskey experience\, December 7th from 4-7pm.

SUMMARY:La Marca Luminore Prosecco Tasting
DESCRIPTION:Because La Marca wasn’t good enough!? They went ahead and made Luminore.\nLuminore is to La Marca what La Grand Dame is to Veuve Clicquot. Alright\, maybe it is not quite the same as Veuve Clicquot has a multitude of other expressions in between the two\, but you get the idea. Luminore is an expression of La Marca that goes beyond the easy-drinking and soft flavors that we have all come to enjoy. It is a DOCG (Denominazione di Origine Controllata e Garantita) Prosecco which means more. From the vineyard site to the vineyard and from the grapes to the bottle. Things have to be done a certain way to obtain the stamp of approval for the highest quality. Think of it as a mixing Prosecco and a sipping one. \nBut wasn’t the Tiffany Blue cladded label already a sipping style? Yes and No. \nOne could indeed enjoy La Marca on its own\, but it still found itself a victim to mixologists everywhere. The Luminore will not. \nIt is more elevated and displays nuances that don’t need to be tampered with.\nAt least that is what we think\, but you can decide for yourself. All you have to do is stop by. \nTo learn more about Prosecco Click Here\nClick Here to purchase La Marca Prosecco\nClick Here to purchase Luminore Prosecco

SUMMARY:Glenmorangie Single Malt Whisky Tasting
DESCRIPTION:Glenmorangie has always been at the forefront of innovation.\nAt least when it comes to single malts. A historic distillery\, Glenmorangie has become synonymous with single malt. A household name some might say that embraces the new and exciting with open arms. Unlike the other Glens that stick to the tried and true\, Glenmo searches for the next novel way of enhancing the single malts drinker experience. From Bourbon barrel finishes to Sauternes barrel finishes\, Glenmo uses their knowledge of Scotch whisky to create glassfuls of excitement. However\, tradition is still important to them as one can never go wrong with their classic 10yr. \nEven though Glenmorangie has been around for quite a while\, they are anything but stagnant. See for yourself.

SUMMARY:Loch Lomond Single Malt
DESCRIPTION:Making whisky since 1814 doesn’t exactly make Loch Lomond new single malt\, but they are a recent addition to the shelves.  It’s not that these bottles haven’t yet sold in the US\, it’s a re-branding and a value proposition that make this exciting.  In an area of surging prices\, Loch Lomond is decidedly  modest (price wise).  A traditional Highland style is presented with the faintest hint of smoke.  Across the range there is much to discover as different casks add their character to the malt.

SUMMARY:Wine Tasting with John Grange Wine Broker
DESCRIPTION:Nothing beats a tasting with someone that knows what they are talking about. That’s why we are hosting a wine tasting with John Grange.\nJohn Grange and his team are just those people. Wine tasting is unique because each bottle of wine has a story to tell. Which inevitably makes the person behind the table a storyteller. Wine isn’t sold based on your decibel level\, it is sold by the history each glass unravels. The story behind the wine isn’t just a story it’s its DNA. Which is why having a wine tasting with John Grange and his team is so vital. They make it an experience and not just another interaction. \nWhich is why we are happy to have John and his team back. \nAs a wine broker John represents different wines for different importers. Himself along with his team then learn the history of the wineries and subsequently its wines and help promote them. \nIf you like wine tastings here is a list of a few more you might be interested in: Click Here\nLineup:\nLes Darons Rouge Languedoc\nCuvaison Chardonnay Carneros\nCuvaison Pinot Noir Carneros\nLilac wine by Jeff Carrel Cotes du Roussillon Villages\nCampil Blanc Cariñena\nCampil Tinto Cariñena

\nClick Here for other opportunities to learn\n

SUMMARY:Charles River Wine Co Wine Tasting
DESCRIPTION:Charles River Wine Co is one of the distributors you never have heard of but should.\nWith a dedication to finding the unique and craft wines\, Charles River Wine Co has created their own niche in the MA wine market. Their wines truly encapture the idea of terroir and represent a family and not a company. The wines have stories and each one is more interesting than the last. \nBut hearing the story from us is not as fun as hearing it from someone at Charles River Wine Co\, which is why Kate will be stopping by to sample some of their latest finds. These wines are fun and worth taking a look at. \nSee you there. Cheers!

SUMMARY:Turtle Creek Winery Wine Tasting
DESCRIPTION:Turtle Creek Winery out of Lincoln\, MA is a winery few people have heard about.\nHowever\, the people that do know about Turtle Creek Winery know the quality of the wines that are in the bottle. \nJust outside of Boston in the small town of Lincoln\, you can find what most would consider an odd site and that would happen to be vineyards. When we think of vineyards and wines it is hard not to imagine the picture-perfect estates that are sprawled throughout places like Bordeaux\, Chianti\, or Napa Valley. These regions represent some of the most recognizable labels and coveted wines. Turtle Creek\, nonetheless\, is not one of those estates. It is\, in fact\, a garagiste winery. A distinction shared with places like Tua Rita\, Screaming Eagle\, and Le Pin. \nBecause of its youth\, Turtle Creek still has a ways to go in order to captivate the world audience the way its peers have. But don’t be discouraged because Turtle Creek is well on its way.

SUMMARY:Bruichladdich\, Port Charlotte\, Free Samples\, oh my!
DESCRIPTION:It’s no secret that Bruichladdich is a favorite at Colonial Spirits… that’s because their whisky is so good!  It’s the best single malt line up that you never hear about.  They are a rare producer of un-peated Islay single malt and have an unusual focus on the terroir.  But\, you love peated whisky? Their Port Charlotte line is the peated goodness you are seeking.  It’s a great story of age-old production and superior quality.  I could go on\, but why when you can taste for yourself… \nJason Cousins will be presenting a free sampling of more than a few really excellent whiskies.  It’s a great gift too (especially for your self)!

\nIf you like wine tastings here is a list of a few more you might be interested in: Click Here\nLineup:\nLes Darons Rouge Languedoc\n3 Brooms by Barker’s Marque Sauvignon Blanc Marlborough\nCuvaison Chardonnay Carneros\nCuvaison Pinot Noir Carneros\nLilac wine by Jeff Carrel Cotes du Roussillon Villages
