DESCRIPTION:Wente Vineyards has a history of winemaking as prestigious as the California winemaking industry.\nOne of the first wineries established\, Wente Vineyards cut its teeth early on in more ways than one. However\, what truly put Wente on the map was the creation of the Wente clone Chardonnay. \nOne of the greatest untold tidbits of information is that not all Chardonnays are the same. It is clear to most that the winemaker and region makes a difference\, but how many know about clonal variation. From 667 to Wente\, the different clones of Chardonnay impart their own nuances on the wine. The Wente family found the now eponymously named clone in France and discovered it suited the California climate. Fast forward to today and the Wente clone is responsible for 80% of the Chardonnay coming out of Cali. \nWente Vineyards specializes in Chardonnay and it is easy to see why.\nTheir wines manage to balance full tropical fruits with well-managed oak and fresh acidity the way good wine was meant to. This description also holds true for the reds. Easy drinking and meant to entice the palate and coax you into having more. But you don’t have to believe me. From our first location to 69 Great Rd\, aka the Clock building\, to our current location\, one thing has remained the same\, our service. We take pride in the services we offer and the gusto we do it with. We enjoy what we do\, especially when we can share it with others. Thank you\, all. Without past employees and customers\, and current employees and customers we wouldn’t have made it this far. \nThe 50th Anniversary Grand Tasting is a way to appreciate all the years we have under our belt.\nIn a year of changes\, we thought it would be nice to coordinate a tasting that took place at a venue that offered more room. Past Grand Tastings occurred over two consecutive Saturdays due to space. The lack of space pushed us to look elsewhere\, and so we did. Proximity to the store was a large priority\, as were scenery and accommodations. Quail Ridge has it all. From the space to accommodate 13+ tables to the lush green grass growing on the 1st fairway\, Quail Ridge is the perfect spot. So we booked the venue\, set the date\, and we are now counting down the days to our 50th Anniversary Grand Tasting. \nWhat does this mean for you? A bigger and better representation of what we enjoy doing.\nWine is all about enjoyment\, and presenting great wines is what we enjoy doing. From classic regions like Piedmont to modern regions like Umpqua Valley in Oregon\, a Grand Wine Tasting should have it all. More importantly\, it should have the best. These are the reasons for going to Quail Ridge and for having a tasting unlike any before. 50 years is a long time to be in business\, so what better way to celebrate than with a wine tasting with over 100 bottles of wine. \nMore importantly\, we will have it all. \nSparkling\, red\, white\, rosé\, port wines\, and more. The Colonial Classic Golf Tournament will take place on Thursday\, September 14 with a shotgun start at 9:30 AM (be there no later than 9 AM for registration) at the Quail Ridge Country Club. After the 10-hole round\, there will be lunch along with handing out of prizes. –Sidenote: Quail Ridge’s unique layout allows their 9-hole course to be converted into a 10-hole course to accommodate a larger crowd.– The prizes will go to the winners of the following categories: Longest Drive\, Closest to the Pin\, and Best Team Score. There might be other opportunities to win prizes. \nThe setup will be like most golf tournaments where there will be groups of four at each hole. On the Par 3s there will be two groups of four. 10 holes shouldn’t take more than 3 hours\, and a quick lunch afterward should have most of us home by no later than 2. After years of not having wine dinners and focusing on the in-store events\, we are reshifting our focus. The wine dinner that Red Raven hosted was a success. Off the heels of the Red Raven event\, we have reached out to Great Road Kitchen in Littleton to host our second wine dinner. \nA collaboration between Dendor Wine\, Montinore Estate\, Great Road Kitchen\, and Colonial Spirits of Acton and Stow\, this event will mark the beginning of Oregon Month. (What is Oregon Month? We’ll touch upon that later.) \nLike any good wine dinner\, the main focus is pairing.\nToo much or little of an ingredient and the wine will either dominate or become overwhelmed. Appropriateness and finesse are the driving forces behind a good wine dinner and few manage it as well as Great Road Kitchen. With chef Chris Frothingham at the wheel\, we knew we had ourselves a home run of an event\, especially when you see the menu he has in store. Even though the food is important\, it makes up only half of the equation. The other half… the wine. \nRudy Marchesi\, the owner of Montinore Estates\, will be gracing us with his presence and presenting his wines at this event. For those that don’t know the wines from Montinore\, the best way to describe them is elegance. The Montinore Pinot Noir has been a fixture and prominent member of our racks. Described as a nice balance between earth and fruit\, the Pinot Noir has a little bit for everyone. The whites are crisp and unpretentious and exemplify their varietals. All in all\, the Montinore wines live and breathe Oregon.
