DESCRIPTION:If you have ever wondered what the difference between all of those bottles of single malt scotch is now is the time to find out.  Single malt scotch may be from Scotland and made with malted barley\, but the similarities don’t go much further.  Each distillery imparts their own distinctive flavor to the malt.  From the way that the barley is malted to the shape of the still to the barrel it is aged in there are dozens of factors influencing the flavor. \nThis tasting event focuses on the breadth of flavor available throughout the world of single malt.  We will be presenting a range of whisky that demonstrates just how wide the spectrum is.  The extra mature range of Glenmorangie features finishing casks of sherry\, port and sauternes.  Ardbeg brings big smoke and peat.  Talisker shows milder peat and the brine of the sea.  Dalwinnie presents a different type of smoke\, from charcoal\, and mountain purity.  Glenkinchie exhibits the light\, crisp and clean malt of the lowlands. \nThe broad range of flavors and malt profiles presented at this tasting is a fine opportunity to learn about scotch whisky and what it is that you like about single malts.  Two industry professionals / whisky enthusiasts will be hosting / pouring and sharing their experience. \n\n\n	Related

SUMMARY:Meet the Winemaker: Peter Spann from Spann Vineyards
DESCRIPTION:Ever heard of Spann Vineyards? Neither had I until recently\, but after having tasted through these excellent wines I’m glad I did. \n  \nSpann Vineyards is a tiny operation in Sonoma County that\, much like Bedrock\, likes to produce off the beaten path wines. The idea behind Spann is to produce unique blends that boast the California fruit while maintaining balance; and I have to say they have done just that. The Spann Vineyards’ wines are excellent across the line\, displaying beautiful fruit characteristic\, supple tannins\, and bright acidity. All the wines had some age to them (the youngest was from the 2010 vintage)\, and not one of the wines exceeds a production of 1000 cases\, so there isn’t a whole lot of this wine available in the market. \n  \nSpann Vineyards’ reach\, as far as wine making is concerned\, is quite large when you consider they produce wines like the “Mo Jo\,” a “Super Tuscan” style blend\, or their “Ying Yang” Chard & Viognier blend that displays both the crispness of the Chard and roundness of the Viognier very well. So needless to say\, these wines are\, at the very least\, intriguing. They are something quite different\, but in a good way. Additionally\, the Spann wines are great values.
