SUMMARY:7th Annual Spring Grand Wine Tasting - Part 1
DESCRIPTION:Welcome\, to our 7th Annual Spring Grand Wine Tasting. \nFor those that are new to the area and haven’t been to one of our Grand tastings before\, you are in for a real treat. For the regulars out there\, you know what you are getting yourself into. \nThe Spring Grand Wine Tasting is the first of three Grand Wine Tastings that we have each year. Like the Fall Grand and Winter Big Red\, the Spring Grand Tasting is a two-part event that takes place over two consecutive weekends from 2-5 PM. Each weekend is unique so coming to both is highly advised\, but not necessary. Over the course of the event\, we will have opened and sampled around 100 bottles of different wines\, which averages to around 50 unique bottles per weekend. \nThe Spring Grand Wine Tasting\, like the season\, is our transition from the heavier winter reds to the lighter wines\, i.e. Rosés\, whites and sparklers. The Spring Grand Wine Tasting is not only a perfect opportunity to sample our newest offerings\, but also a means of having questions you may have answered. And with Rosé season being in full swing and an abundance of them to choose from\, there is no way of picking the wrong one if you sampled it first. \nIn addition to a stellar selection\, we will be offering our 25% discount on 12+ bottles of wines. The 12+ bottles can be mix-n-matched and can be from either weekend. However\, in order to qualify for the discount\, the 12+ bottles have to be from the event. All other wines will adhere to our regular discount policy. \nMark your calendar (paper or electronic)\, hire a babysitter or bring the kids along\, don’t chew gum or suck on mints\, and join us for our Spring Grand Wine Tasting\, an event not to be missed. \nCarpe Vinum! \nHere is a sample of what we will be pouring: \nChateau Routas Rose Coteaux Varios en Provence\nCline Pinot Noir Sonoma County\nGrgich Hills Fumé Blanc Napa Valley\nMarcel Martin Muscadet Sèvre-et-Maine Les Vieilles Vignes\nDomaine Celestin Blondeau Sancerre Cuvee de Moulins Bales\nDomaine de Fondrèche Côtes du Ventoux Rosé \nCa’ Del Monte Valpolicella Classico\n375mL Poquito Moscato\nLamoreaux Landing Dry Riesling Finger Lakes\nDom Diogo ‘Vinhao’ Tinto Vinho Verde\nClos Cibonne Tibouren Rosé Cotes de Provence Cru Classe\nValdibella ‘Isolano’ Sicilia \n90+ Cellars:\nLot 120 Pinot Gris California\nLot 65 French Fusion White Languedoc\nLot 42 Pinot Grigio Trentino\nLot 122 Chardonnay Mendocino\nLot 125 Pinot Noir Monterey\nLot 118 Sauvignon Blanc Coteaux de Gennois\nLot 50 Prosecco Brut \n(Get more info here: Spring Grand Wine Tasting.) \n\n\n	Related

SUMMARY:Premium European Wines Wine Tasting
DESCRIPTION:This is as fresh as they come – for distributors\, I mean. Premium European Wines is a small operation based out of our hometown\, Acton\, MA. Paul and Oxana are the husband and wife team that founded the business\, represent the wines\, deliver and promote the wines. When it comes to boutique\, family oriented\, environmentally conscious wineries look no further. With only a handful of brands in their portfolio\, you can say that they are starting small. Regardless of their size\, these wines are just as serious\, if not more than the rest. With fewer hands to feed – Prem Euro Wines is the importer and distributor – and no marketing to pay for\, these wines offer up an exceptional value but are still well-made. We will be stocking these wines for the foreseeable future so might as well get not only acquainted with them but also the people behind them. See you all here. \nCarpe Vinum! \n\n\n	Related

SUMMARY:Rosé Weekend: Sale and Tasting
DESCRIPTION:The growth in the popularity of rosé wine is one of the most remarkable wine industry trends of the past decade. This is due in large part to the changing tastes of American consumers who have gone from sweet\, unctuous “blush wines” to enthusiastic drinkers of dry rosé\, particularly those from Provence. So popular are these wines that U.S. imports from the region have increased from one-half to five million liters in the past 10 years\, making this country the second largest rosé  market in the world\, while simultaneously increasing consumer awareness and interest in rosé s from just about every other region in the world were red wine grapes are grown. \nIt happens that many rosé producers – from the “Rhône Rangers” of California to the winemakers of Australia’s Barossa Valley – blend the same grapes as their Provencal counterparts\, e.g.\, Grenache\, Syrah\, and Mourvèdre\, among others. In spite of this reliance on the same varieties\, differences in climate\, soil\, and other factors make for noticeable regional differences. In France’s Loire Valley\, for example\, the dominant red grape is Cabernet Franc\, so it follows that the region’s rosés are usually made from the primary varieties. In Bordeaux\, Cabernet Sauvignon\, Merlot\, Cabernet Franc are used in the local rosés. In Germany\, rosés are made from Spätburgunder (Pinot Noir)\, while Austria’s most popular red grape\, a crossbreed known as Zweigelt\, is the sole grape used to produce the country’s wonderfully rich\, spicy pink wines. \nWith so many different rosé styles and flavor profiles available in the market\, the Colonial Spirits wine team has worked hard to obtain the finest examples of this popular wine from around the world and make them available to our customers. This coming weekend\, we’ll be celebrating the beginning of the rosé season. Starting at 9:00 am Saturday and ending at 6:00 pm Sunday we’ll be offering a 20% discount on six or more bottles of any rosé in the store. We’ve also scheduled a tasting from 1:00 to 4:00 pm on Sunday for customers who would like to sample some of our old favorites and new arrivals. Start your celebration of spring this weekend. We look forward to seeing you. \n\n\n	Related

SUMMARY:Masciarelli Wines w/ John
DESCRIPTION:How long has it been since we have been having these regularly occurring wine tastings with John? Years. John is both a Portfolio Manager and Sales Rep for Masciarelli Wine Co. so you can say he knows a thing or two about wine. But\, unlike many wine experts\, John doesn’t throw his knowledge around as a way of intimidating you. Instead\, he consoles you and guides you through his wines in a manner that allows you to grasp and understand what tastes you are trying. We are not all cut out to be connoisseurs\, but it is nice when someone like John can make tasting wine a fun and relaxing experience versus a stressful one. \nIf you have not yet met John or have tried his wines\, this is the opportunity to do so. \nCarpe Vinum \n\n\n	Related

SUMMARY:A new twist on St Paddy's with Jay Needleman and Privateer Rum
DESCRIPTION:If you are thinking cocktails on St Patrick’s Day you probably aren’t thinking rum.  Perhaps you should be? Jay Needleman of Privateer Rum is ready to serve up good times with an interesting twist – rum cocktails (and not the frozen kind with little umbrellas). \nPrivateer’s Silver Rum is an ideal cocktail base with no resemblance to the harsh\, phenol flavor of many other rums.  It is smooth and mixable while showing the true potential of fine rum. \nTheir Amber rum bucks the trend of over-sweet\, spiciness showing rich flavor and complexity similar to fine Bourbon Whiskey.  This rum is exceptionally smooth and round with waves of orange citrus\, sandalwood\, leather\, cinnamon and spice\, and a lingering and silky finish. \nBest of all\, it’s local – Made in Ipswich\, MA at a small\, craft distillery.  Privateer is what rum should be! \n\n\n	Related

SUMMARY:House Bear Brewing Mead Tasting
DESCRIPTION:Mead has seen a recent rise in interest and intrigue as of late\, and rightly so when you consider it is one of the oldest forms of alcohol. But modern mead isn’t quite what you expect. Enter House Bear Brewing. House Bear is one of the newer mead brewers but in this short time they have created quite a “buzz” with meads like World War Bee\, Paradise Unpaved\, and Show Bear. This is not only an opportunity to understand what mead is but also an opportunity to see what brewers like House Bear are doing and the path they are carving for modern mead. This sure ain’t your great-great-grandfather’s mead. Enjoy responsibly! \n\n\n	Related

SUMMARY:Bulleit Bourbon
DESCRIPTION:Whether you are just getting into bourbon or are a long time aficionado\, it is time to try Bulleit Bourbon (and Rye\, for that matter).  The Bulleit family has been making this fine spirit for generations and it is one of the very best buys on the whiskey shelf.  It is a great expression of a classic American Bourbon with a bold\, spicy character and a smooth\, clean finish. \n\n\n	Related

SUMMARY:Single Barrel Bourbon 2016 - The Selection Process
DESCRIPTION:The first exclusive Colonial Spirits bourbon barrels of the year are queued up and I am pleased to be kicking things off with my two favorites of years past – Weller 107 and Journeyman. \nSingle barrel whiskey of any kind is special\, as a unique expression of the whiskey developed from the isolated environment of only one barrel.  Certainly Weller 107 is a known quantity and Journeyman seems to be a more familiar bottle here so the chance to select our own barrels is an exciting challenge.  After all\, our barrels should be better than what you can get on the shelf everyday! \nI’ve requested and received samples from 3 different barrels at each of the above mentioned distilleries and now it’s time to pick the best one.  The selection will take place on Saturday\, March 5th at 2pm and we want you to decide with us.  The samples are pretty small so the opportunity to taste and vote is limited. \n  \n\n\n	Related

SUMMARY:Spanish Wines Tasting w/ Nicole
DESCRIPTION:This seems to be our year because we have booked another unbelievable tasting for 2016. We met Giorgio from Chile\, Paul\, Stefan\, Frank\, and Carmen from Germany\, and now we are meeting Nicole (native to the USA\, but currently resides in Italy). Nicole is the Folio Fine Wine Partners Spanish wine guru. She is more than the traditional portfolio representative because\, unlike most\, she resides in the country\, in this case\, Spain\, that she oversees the sales of. Spain has long been a hotbed for good wine\, especially for everyday wines\, but did you know that in regards to vineyards sites and age\, Spain has both vineyards and vines that are older than their better known European counterparts\, i.e. France\, Germany\, and Italy. It is due to this\, along with younger more adventurous winemakers\, that makes Spain the new ‘it’ wine country. However interesting I may make it sound\, nothing can replace the enthusiasm and knowledge of someone who gets to live and see first hand how Spain and its wines are evolving. Nicole is just that person\, and Folio is the portfolio for it. With a portfolio that is only equaled by the self-described SPANISH GUY Jorge Ordonez\, Nicole has prime choices of wines to choose from that will  not only showcase the varietals\, but also the regions from which they are from. We currently have three of the wines being tasted this evening that you are welcome to pick up and try for yourself so you know what you are getting into – Palacios/Remondo\, Leda\, and Vall Llach. But\, you could always wait. Either way\, you are sure to enjoy yourself. \nThis is an open event\, but only the first few guests will be eligible to receive a gift that Nicole will be bringing from Spain. \n*We will be offering a 20% discount off of the wines being sampled. \nCarpe Vinum! \nHere’s the lineup. \n\n2013 Fillaboa Albarino\n2011 Palacios Remondo\, “Placet”\, Rioja Bianco– “This white shows a mix of fruity and savory flavors\, with layers of pear\, dried apple\, beeswax\, vanilla\, dried herb and ginger notes. The fleshy texture is focused by firm acidity. Balanced and expressive. Drink now through 2017. 300 cases imported.” – 91 Points\, Wine Spectator\n2009 Mas de Leda\, Tempranillo\, Tierra de Castille y Leon– “This generous red shows a broad texture and tangy tannins\, with ripe and roasted plum\, dried herb and coffee flavors. Lacks focus but displays good concentration. Tempranillo. Drink now through 2019. 1\,000 cases imported.” – 89 Points\, Wine Spectator\n2013 Vall Llach ‘Embruix’ Priorat– “Plum and currant flavors are deepened by sanguine and smoky notes in this round red. Light\, firm tannins\, and moderate acidity give structure while spice and iron notes linger. Drink now through 2021. 3\,000 cases imported.” – 88 Points\, Wine Spectator\n2009 El Seque\, Monastrell\, Alicante– “Produced from 100 % estate-grown fruit\, this wine has a clear Mediterranean influence\, with warm and calm nuances of black fruit and soft aromas and tastes of balsamic and aromatic plants. This is a wine with an authentic Mediterranean character.” – Artadi.com – 91 Points\, Vinous Media\n2011 Palacios Remondo\, “Propriedad”\, Rioja\n\nSee you all there! \n\n\n	Related

SUMMARY:The Germans are Coming!.. Again.
DESCRIPTION:We are once again highly fortunate to host Frank Heyden\, Stefan Bollig\, and Paul Anheuser from Weingut Dr. Heyden\, Weingut Bollig-Lehnert\, and Weingut Paul Anheuser respectively. It has been a couple of years since the three of them have graced us with their presence\, but with much anticipation\, and a lot of hard work\, we were able to book them for a few hours. \nIn addition to these three lovely fellows\, we will also have a fourth winemaker by the name of Dr. Carmen von Nell-Breuning. Dr. Carmen is the owner and winemaker for C. von Nell-Breuning located in Ruwer\, a sub-district of the Mosel. Her wines are described as being rich with both flavors and minerality\, a feat not uncommon for the Ruwer. However\, you don’t have to take my word for it. Instead\, you can stop by and explore her wines yourself. With Carmen and the dynamic trio stopping by\, this is an event that shouldn’t be missed. \n\n\n	Related

SUMMARY:Meet the Winemaker: Giorgio Flessati from Falernia
DESCRIPTION:We have been preaching about the wines from Falernia out of Elqui Valley\, Chile for the past year. Some of you have gotten on board\, thank you. But\, some of you still haven’t. I know\, blindly trying something is not the easiest choice to make especially if you are talking about a bottle of wine that can cost anywhere from $13-$25 if not your dinner (assuming someone made a bad wine pairing recommendation). However\, for those that still haven’t boarded the Falernia train and are looking for that extra push in the right direction here is your opportunity. On Saturday\, February 13th (Could this have been better planned?) from 1-4 PM we will be hosting Giorgio Flessati\, winemaker for Falernia. I was fortunate enough to have met Giorgio back in mid-2015\, and all I can say is that everyone is in for a real treat. Giorgio will be pouring his wines this fine afternoon for anyone and everyone that either made plans to stop by or just happened to stop by. Regardless\, if you happen to have a couple of minutes off and would like to meet an excellent and exciting winemaker this is an event not to be missed. Hope to see you there! \nCarpe Vinum! \n\n\n	Related

SUMMARY:Harvard Cider
DESCRIPTION:New to our store\, we’ll be having Chase from Harvard Cider come down to taste their ciders.  New to game\, these guys are doing what we at Colonial love; they use local ingredients.  Pull apples from orchards in our immediate area.  I love to support local breweries and cider houses\, but it always helps when the cider is of fine quality.  Come down and meet one of the founders and talk all things cider.  February 6th\, 1-3pm. \n\n\n	Related
