German Wine Tasting

July 8, 2011 @ 4:00 pm - 7:00 pm

Riesling is the white wine grape for the 21st Century. Its wines can be lighter, finer, livelier, and more refreshing than those of other grapes, while still remaining at the peak of refinement and sensual pleasure. What’s more, the German wines have less alcohol, which is a BIG advantage in a lot of situations (especially the summertime)…As a follow-up to my email from earlier this week, we’ve decided to taste some wines from Germany and one from Austria.  These wines are perfect for warm weather, so to help celebrate the summer we’ll also be pairing the wines with some delicious, homemade finger foods!

Here’s what we will be pouring…

2010 Weingut Dr. Heyden Oppenheimer Kreuz Kabinett Rheinhessen @ $10.99/btl

2010 Weingut Georg Albrecht Schneider Niersteiner Findling Kabinett Rheinhessen @ $12.99/btl

2009 Weingut Bollig-Lehnert Trittenheimer Apotheke Kabinett Mosel @ $13.99/btl

(90 points, Wine Spectator)

2009 Weingut Bollig-Lehnert Piesporter Goldtröpfchen Kabinett Mosel @ $14.99/btl (89 points, Wine Spectator)

Although not Riesling, we’ll also be pouring the following…

2008 Hesketh ‘Perfect Strangers’ Grüner Veltliner Kremstal @ $12.98/btl on-sale

2009 Weingut Fitz-Ritter Gewürztraminer Spätlese Pfalz @ $18.99/btl
