No Business Left Behind: Colonial Spirits of Acton Embraces the Digital World

It’s not your father’s package store. It may not even be your older brother’s liquor store. That’s because Colonial Spirits of Acton is fully embracing the 21st century business climate and getting on-line and wired-in.

The days of the fifth of vodka in the brown paper bag are gone (though Colonial Spirits is happy to package your goods this way, too). But it’s not enough for any business –let alone a liquor store–to just have a website. There’s a thing called “Web 2.0” out there, and what that means is: any business that wants to maximize itself online has to go beyond a website with a phone number, business hours, and directions to the store. Mezcal vs. Islay: The Smoke Showdown

Mezcal is an amazing spirit that remains fairly mysterious.  There seems to be a persisting association with tequila – and it is made from agave – but the difference is extreme.  The price tends to be a little extreme too, so it is no wonder that people shy away from fine Mezcal.

The best association, with a known category, is with Islay Scotch Whisky.  The smoky characteristic is what most people immediately think of when ‘Islay’ is mentioned and the same should be so for Mezcal.

At this special tasting event world class, single village Mezcals will be sampled and discussed along side a familiar selection of Islay Whisky.

The tasting will take place on Friday, November 8th.

A Letter in a Bottle

Weller Bourbon

To whom this may concern,

The truth is that Bourbon, like single malt Scotch, is getting harder and harder to come by, becoming more expensive, or a bit of both.  This is not the case because production is slowing down, but because demand is growing.  I can remember a time, even in the 6 years I have been working here, when we would get a mixed case of Pappy Van Winkle bourbons, a case each of the Rip Van Winkle bourbons, a six-pack of the Eagle Rare 17yr, and etc. (or more commonly known as the Antique Collection). But times have changed and with each passing year our allocation of the Antique Coll. bourbons is getting smaller; last year we received a total of 12 bottles mixed and matched between all the different bourbons.  We still haven’t received our allocation yet, but we are crossing our fingers that it is as “good” as last years.  Unfortunately this sad tale isn’t about the Antique Coll., but instead about WL Weller 12yr. Annual Oktoberfest Beer Tasting

Our annual Oktoberfest Beer Tasting is just around the corner, this Saturday from 1-5pm to be exact, and it’s going to be better than ever.  With over 35 beers to sample from that will pair brilliantly with the fatty brats and sausages that we will be grilling, this is an event not to be missed.  As always this is a FREE event so the more friends and family members you bring, the more fun we will all have.  Hope to see everyone there!! PROST!!
