The title is self explanatory. I wrote about the Neyen not too long ago, so it should still be fresh in people’s minds. I wanted to know what our customers thoughts on this wine are, since it was so well received. It sold out about four hours after I sent an email that we had some in stock. I know what a few customers think about the wine, since they emailed me either asking for more, but there were many more customers that bought than those who wrote back. So I have a knowledge gap I’d like to fill.
Whether you leave a comment that criticizes my choice or praises it, all are welcome. This is not only a great exercise for our customers, but it is also a great learning experience for me. It allows our customers to voice their opinions without feeling like they have hurt mine. At the same time, it helps me understand what it is our customers are searching for. Everyone likes a great bargain, but was it worth it? Did the wine meet expectations or did it fall short?
On that note, please feel free to leave comments on any wine you may have bought from us whether it be through our email service or if you got direct advice from us while you shopped at our store. Please respond because the more we know, the better we can serve you.
Nic & Nic
There are plenty of great domestic Syrah, the only issue is they cost more than what most people want to spend on a bottle of wine. That is why I am exuberantly happy to say that Owen Roe ‘Ex Umbris’ Syah, Columbia Valley 2010 is in. One of the greatest domestic Syrah which happens to be plush with flavors of dark plums, cherries, sarsaparilla and cream, alongside hints of cherry, tobacco and peppery bacon. This wine will mature beautifully over the next 5 years and will continue to drink well for an additional 3-5 . Can you believe you can get all of this for under $30? The last vintage of Ex Umbris received a score of 93 from the Wine Spectator and also happened to be the #25 of the Top 100 list. Although this is the 2010 and not the 2009, do not worry because 2010 is supposed to be as good if not better (I was told first hand by a few WA state winemakers) than 2009. I only have 9 cases available so act quickly, prices will go up once people catch on to this wine, especially if it receives another high score.
$28.99 per bottle
If you would like some put aside please feel free to email or call.
For those who aren’t aware, my position in the store changed recently, I moved to a new role as the craft beer buyer. Of course, Tim remains very involved with the beer department that he essentially constructed, but there’s a new set of eyes looking at everything we do with beer now.
Of course, my background in wine is fairly extensive, while my knowledge of beer is still being developed, and so I’m taking great care to think about the beers that I drink in order to better understand their character and use. The great difference that I have observed is that the world of wine is governed by terroir, the concept of a wine’s “sense of place”, but this is not the case with beer, where everything is governed by process. The past 3 years have been some of the best vintages to date in almost any region; Bordeaux, Burgundy, California, Washington, Oregon and so forth, but only a few have had outstanding vintages both in 2009 and 2010, the Rhone happens to be one of them. Some of the best wines, since 2007, have been recently released and if you follow ratings or don’t, it doesn’t matter because the quality is in the glass. Rich, dense, structured, firm, age-worthy and balanced are just a few of the descriptors when reviewing the wines from these vintages, but act fast because it will all be sold before you know it. So take advantage of the wines from these vintages whether they are inexpensive and ready to drink now, or expensive and meant to be drunk years down the road, because nothing good ever lasts.
