Wachusett

To go along with our sale, we will have Wachusett here to pour some of their stuff.  Their brand new IPA Wally is making some big waves in the beer world.  People just can’t believe that Wachusett made such a great hazy IPA.  Definitely worth at shot.  You won’t find a beer like this in a 6 pack, let alone for the price.  Come try their new stuff and remind yourself about the old.

50th Anniversary Grand Tasting at Quail Ridge

50th Anniversary Grand Tasting

50th Anniversary Grand Tasting. 50 Years, The Golden Anniversary. 50 Years of ‘Thank Yous’ in one great event.

That’s right, we have been in business for 50 years and we are still going strong. From our first location to 69 Great Rd, aka the Clock building, to our current location, one thing has remained the same, our service. We take pride in the services we offer and the gusto we do it with. We enjoy what we do, especially when we can share it with others. Thank you, all. Without past employees and customers, and current employees and customers we wouldn’t have made it this far.

The 50th Anniversary Grand Tasting is a way to appreciate all the years we have under our belt.

In a year of changes, we thought it would be nice to coordinate a tasting that took place at a venue that offered more room. Past Grand Tastings occurred over two consecutive Saturdays due to space. The lack of space pushed us to look elsewhere, and so we did. Proximity to the store was a large priority, as were scenery and accommodations. Quail Ridge has it all. From the space to accommodate 13+ tables to the lush green grass growing on the 1st fairway, Quail Ridge is the perfect spot. So we booked the venue, set the date, and we are now counting down the days to our 50th Anniversary Grand Tasting.

What does this mean for you? A bigger and better representation of what we enjoy doing.

Wine is all about enjoyment, and presenting great wines is what we enjoy doing. From classic regions like Piedmont to modern regions like Umpqua Valley in Oregon, a Grand Wine Tasting should have it all. More importantly, it should have the best. These are the reasons for going to Quail Ridge and for having a tasting unlike any before. 50 years is a long time to be in business, so what better way to celebrate than with a wine tasting with over 100 bottles of wine.

More importantly, we will have it all.

Sparkling, red, white, rosé, port wines, and more. There will be something for everyone. In addition, we will have plenty of finger food, water, and the opportunity to save on your purchase. This will be the event of the season, and we couldn’t have picked a better venue for it.

Put it on your calendar now because you won’t want to miss this tasting.

Night Shift

Night Shift has been making some of the best beer in the state for a while now, but they were always just out of reach of our shelves.  Then, just before Christmas, that all changed.  Since bringing them in to the store, we have had over 10 different beers from them.  And you, the consumer, have been enjoying it.  We run through dozens of cases a week and they just keep sending us fresh, hop forward cans as well as funky and sour bottles.

It took a little bit, but we are finally having the Everett brewers in for a tasting.  If you have never tried Night Shift, come down.  We know our beer and are constantly exploring what is out there, so please trust me when I say that they are one of the top breweries in Massachusetts.  Their offerings change from week to week, depending on what they have just brewed, but know that what we are pouring will be fresh, flavorful, and well made.

Spanish Sidra w/ Ken

Sunday is the Superbowl and our Patriots are on the march for another trophy and set of rings.  And with football comes a few tasty drinks.  And no Sunday necessitates fine libations more than the Superbowl.  We have some great beer sales going on right now in honor of the games which you should come and check out, but while you are here on Sunday we will also have the knowledgeable Ken Zuckerman here to pour out some of the most unique ciders in the store.

Spain has two regions for cider, Asturias and Basque, both in the north.  While Basque sidras  have a good name in the United States, Asturias produces the bulk of the countries sidras.  Ken will be pairing select sidras from Asturias with some delicious artisan chocolates.  He will be pouring two sparkling sidras, Riesta Guzman and Angelon.  You might remeber these from when he did a tasting last time.  While made of apples, these can easily replace any sparkling wine.  Diamantes de Hielo by Grusifas is ice cider with a deep amber color.  A great desert drink.  Finally we will do a fan favor Sidra de Pera from Angelon.

Goose Island Wild Ale #2

We did this back in October and it was a lot of fun.  So much fun that we decided to do it all over again.  December 2nd, starting at 6pm, we will be opening bottles of Sofie and Matilda from this year as well as bottles of Lolita, Juliet, Halia, Madame Rose, and Gillian all from 2015. With wild ales like these, we found that giving them a year to sit and mellow out was the right call, so we’re doing it again.  Keep an eye out for an email in which you can RSVP to.  This was a fun, relaxed tasting in which we had some fun with some very nice, rather expensive beers.  It is a great opportunity to try a $30 bottle of fruit added sour ale without paying the $30 price tag.  It does hurt that instead of one, we will be tasting five.

Ciders of Spain and Food Pairings

Come try an incredibly diverse range of Spanish ciders paired with foods that bring out their unique earthy, tart and sour qualities. The “sidra” will be paired with an assortment of charcuterie such as cured meats, olives, earthy cheeses, and even a fig almond torta.  Styles range from traditionals which are close to sour beer, sparklers reminiscent of Champagne, Prosecco & Albarino, to  a wild yeast fermented pear and sherry-like frost cider. Except for the dessert frost cider, all the offerings are uncommonly dry, low in sugar and exceedingly refreshing.
No cost to participate, just bring an appetite for learning and discover why “sidra” is arguably the most food friendly and storied of fermented beverages, with a legacy dating back more than 3000 years! The tasting will be led by Ken Zuckerman of Ciders of Spain, a 20 year veteran educator in craft beer, artisanal food & cider.
